The origin of "He's worth his salt" and "salary"...very interesting. He mentions inflation as a risk once leaving the gold standard (we did that under Nixon, right?) but that seems to be one area of our economy that's under control. I wonder if the U.S. was one of the first, last, or in the middle as far as Western economies leaving gold.
