When it comes to keeping gunsout of the hands of criminals, 63 percent of Americans remainunconvinced that tighter restrictions on buying and owning gunswill be effective, according to the latest Reason-Rupe (http://reason.com/assets/db/1386745296838.pdf) poll.About a third (32 percent), said stricter regulations would beeffective in preventing criminals from obtaining guns.

Seven in ten Republicans say stricter gun regulations would notbe effective while just 26 percent say they would beeffective. Democrats are more divided on the issue. Whiletypically supportive of increased gun control, more than half (53percent) say tighter restrictions on buying and owning guns wouldnot prevent criminals from obtaining the weapons while 44 percentsay they would prevent criminals from getting guns. Two-thirds ofindependents don’t expect tighter restrictions to be effectivewhile 30 percent think they will.

You'll notice that the younger people are, the smarter they are on this topic. Probably because marijuana laws didn't stop them from buying weed this week.

But this is why Congress does nothing--no, not because they're young and smoking weed, but because the public but for a few doesn't want it.
