Just back from lunch with fyrenza!

It was a great time. I was apprehensive, how someone so fun-loving as fyrenza would get along with someone so serious as me, but we had a great time talking and laughing and enjoying meeting each other in person.

She's really wonderful, friendly, warm, great laugh, so easy to get along with.

We talked about all sorts of things, and a lot about the forum and various members--were your ears burning? :-P

She picked the restaurant, a new BBQ place just up the road a piece. Great food!

fyrenza, thanks for lunch, I'll buy next time you're in town!! Soon I hope.

You'd love her!

We should all meet. I was telling fyrenza, on an RV forum with a political area where we fought tooth and claw we decided to get together friend and enemy alike at RV rallies. It was remarkable, people you thought would slug you you ever met would shake hands and sit down and talk. Never stopped arguing, just disagreement without the disagreeableness. Must have met 100s that way. That was back 15 years or so now.

I'd be glad to meet anyone you come through San Antone, or I can get out your way.

Yep, I met a bunch of people from a trade forum I'm on. We also have a political sub forum where we occasionally slug it out. We all got along pretty well, but I did get the cold shoulder from a couple of libs. :D

It helps to have something--RVing, trade, whatever--to draw and keep people together. Politics draws people together but political opinions are bound to clash. fyrenza and I talked about that.

Good food and drink helps too. Something about sharing a meal that makes people closer. The event I attended was sponsored by a product manufacturer. They put us up in a nice hotel, and we all shared three meals a day together.

Fyrenza is the one who sent me here. Actually she told me about how great this site is a few months back. From what I can see she couldn't have been more on the money. I was reading some of the posts on economic issues this morning and it was really interesting. If people wanted to they could actually learn something here. It was like the posters had PhDs in economics and history.

And oh yeah, Fyrenza is a sweetheart, ain't she?

When you expect to see something you'll make assumptions. Those assumptions feed fears, the fears make you do crazy things, you then can't back down from said crazy things, then suddenly the assumption is truth/legend.

That's Internet stupid for you.

I agree completely. There's something about a computer that makes you lose your mind. None of this type of stuff happens in real life. You work through it. She's a good person at heart.

The fact that you usually come to a message board to discuss something you're somewhat passionate about is what likely causes it. I mean, someone could get along just dandy in every other facet with the exception of the topic at hand, but since you're their to discuss said topic primarily, it can cause friction.

For example, I'm sure me and Cigar would get along just fine discussing basketball. But since we're here to talk politics, and we both have loud personalities and disagree everywhere politically, we don't get along. If me and Mister D were to meet at a gym and talk fitness, we'd likely get along fine, but since we're talking politics and disagree on issues like race, it can cause some friction. Although I actually get along pretty well with him at this point, even if I disagree, but you get the point.

I'm guessing all of that is amplified if you own the damn board. Anyway, I still wish Trinity well, even if I think the ban was ridiculous, along with all of these issues that plagued the board for months. I wish her nothing but the best, she treated me well for 99% of the time I was there.

I agree with all of this. I don't blame Trinnity (even though she thinks I'm vicious now). I blame the people around her. Trinnity can be a cool chick most of the time and has a good, kind heart.

Yeah, I miss @fyrenza (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=817) also, what ever happened to her?

She was on Trinn's site also but I haven't been over there in a long time now.

I wonder if Billy Bob got his hands on her?

She dropped off one other forum as well.

I don't "hate this place" ~ at ALL,

but when the Big Break-Up happened, I hadn't been at either site for very long,

and the accusations about spying were flying hot and heavy,

so I absented myself from the drama,

especially since I was one of the main folks saying that it was ridiculous
for Green Arrow to go over there to freakin' yell at folks about stuff that happened HERE.

Hey, @Chris (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=128)! I was in SA about a month ago, and missed you at lunch. :(

Now that I know I'm not banned for being a "She-Woman-Lib-Hater" ( ROFLMAO! ),
I'll be SURE to contact you for my next expedition! ;)

Hey lady

I am so pleased to see you post here. I plan to check the other site to see if you are there too.

I like how you doll up your posts. And you are fun. Glad you and Chris met. I feared Billy Bob nabbed you. LOL

and as you watch your numbers dwindle,

you might want to go and see "How It's Done."

Just in case, you know?

I came here,

in peace,

pretty h0ppy to see some old friends,

but Trinnity lives in your heads, yet and still,

I'm sure that if Peter1469 wished to make this forum his entire existence he might very well also sign up at multiple forums in order to send PMs and sway people into posting here. He might start rumors and pillory people in personal messages and ask others to do the same.

He might also initiate erratic machinations such as deVIPing, reVIPing, deVIPing and finally IP bans for assumed disloyalty to a forum. Not a sports team, not a company that pays you, not real life friends you meet for coffee and gift at Christmas, but a public service forum that was paid for by someone else and which you are to use with sense, grace, and dignity, not for personal vendettas and complaints.

Pathetic is not dropping things immediately for the good of all but wearing a black armband for months and talking of things like betrayal...over a forum.

Pathetic, in my opinion, is caring that much.

I used to be pathetic. I used to care what forum people thought of me. I used to feel a lot of things which were illusory and useless. Now, I care about my job, my friends, and my loved ones that exist in the physical world and relegate forums to their proper place of part-time fun.

Trinnity is a good person. She is not a perfect person. No one is. Mistakes were made on all sides and I chose not to involve myself in this latest bit of drama other than requesting my data and intellectual property be removed--not because I hate them, not because I think they are bad people, but emotional people do silly things they regret later.

Like posting at 2 am when drinking.

I have this theory.

People who get on political forums (or probably any opinionated forum) - some people feel the need to be part of a clique or a certain crowd. Some, not all people. I tend to think these people who need what they perceive as peer support basically are not confident in what they believe in. They are not mature enough to think that there are other people out there in the world that have opinions that differ from theirs so they have this want to associate only with their kind.

Racists and bigots are similar.

That kind of explains part of the whole "forum war" thing, some people felt intellectually threatened so they migrated over there to the echo chamber with ill will toward tPF. Meanwhile many of us here were glad to see them go. How many Glenn Beck clones do you need?

There is probably some other chemistry also but I think this is a big part of it.

Another piece concerning TPF is that they finally realized that echo chambers get dull after a while so they went on a campaign to recruit and maintain liberal members which really didn't go so well. Every time they found one they immediately got blasted out of the gate. I think they were lost for an identity and some internal turmoil ensued and bam, here we are.

And I still think the whole forum war concept as they put it is stupid.

Let me understand this.

A bunch of liberals or what I call, alleged liberals, got pissed and bailed out to some other forum?

That is a GOOD thing.

There are some still posting here and they lack some fundamental understanding of humans and freedom and other matters.

They seem to not mind 2.65 million books of law in the law library in DC.

Does anybody really think our problem is we don't have enough laws?

The nature of law is to rule

I am aware it has other uses, but the way politicians use it, they intend to rule.

Can we have some comments as to what an educated Thomas Jefferson would think of 2.65 million books of law in this country?

Do you think G. Washington would have commanded an army to get rid of a ruler with that many laws for him to obey?

There's an important factor you're missing. For one thing, the numbers gap isn't even that large. So even if numbers mattered, you'd barely have a case.

The important thing is quality, not quantity. No amount of numbers in Trinnity's favor will change these important facts:

1) Her site is essentially a monarchy, run only by her and her pet Calypso. This site is a democracy run by equal parts conservatives, liberals, libertarians, and the one socialist (that'd be me).
2) Her site is a complete and total echo chamber. This site is not. We have a wide, diverse spectrum of viewpoints here, and that will ensure our survival long after Trinnity's site eventually dies of boredom.
3) If any member here decided to leave the forum and patronize another, none of us mods will go batshit crazy and initiate a purge of the leaving member's allies of the site. We especially will not punish members who had nothing to do with it. The same cannot be said for Trinnity's forum.

I could go on, but these are the three most important factors.

Hmm - I'm sure that Wal-Mart gets more trade in numbers than Saks, but its quality vs quantity.

This old thing again?
fyrenza

the post count here is higher than there in spite of the fewer users because people don't all agree. It's hard to stay in a group and just go "yeh, what he said" over and over. That's why politics often flies out the window and sites become chit chat.

How many times can everyone say "Obama is the antichrist"? You may find 10 different ways but then it dies off after that.

politicalforum.com is a super busy site because people can fight and argue. People like texmaster or webby would bitch and bitch about that place, come to Trins or another site to get away from liberals (or because they were banned) only to return to it because they like the game.

People love to argue over politics.

Captain Obvious

I don't have a problem if that's what people want to do, if they're more comfortable in cliques and echo chambers, I really don't. To each their own but I am happier that they're over there than here. Listening to all the whining about there being other people on the forum that have opinions different from theirs gets a little old after a while.

I just don't get the whole interforum angst and paranoia. It's really childish.

Because he suggested being happy where you're at. I wasn't arguing with or blaming him, I was agreeing with him.

Normally I'd agree with open discussion, but forum wars like this are not good for anyone or any forum.

Years, many years ago now, I participated on an RVing forum that had an area where politics, religion, etc could be discussed not unlike this or that forum. But the owners of the forum decided it was bad for business and closed the area to political discussion. Out of that emerged perhaps a dozen new forums all at war with each other. It got real ugly with people trashing each others forums, sneakily recruiting, and so on. None of them lasted long for it. My forum lasted 6 years, why, rule against discussing any other forums. It's basically the same as not allowing open discussion of specific moderation actions.

I'm just requesting an end to this. For everyone's and the forum's sake.

Yeah, a Steelers forum I go to has a strict rule - no political discussion.

They're good about enforcing it too. :)

An ATV forum I'm on has a similar rule. A homebrewing forum I go to has a political section but it gets really ugly in there sometimes and causes a lot of problems on the site. It's run by a couple of 20-somethings and they have a completely uncensored section also which is really the only reason I pop in every now and then.

Politics on non-political forums isn't always healthy.

That's one of my points, you don't see that shit going on (independently that is) over here unless it's dragged over here from there which happens on occasion.

They stew over it often over there. A lot of snarky discussion there about tPF. It's pretty clear, and stupid. I've said so a couple times over there myself. In a nice way mind you, I have no interest in participating or defending.

Right, and I don't blame that RVing forum. RVing, ATV, Steelers, those interests tend to unite people around a common interest. Politics, religion, economics discussion divide people.

And Calypso Jones. Funny how either one of them would show up every time we got a new member who would wind up over there also.

That was pretty arrogant.

Nah, girl, it was a compliment. I like a gal that can hold her liquor and knows her way around a bar. It ain't no thang.

And anyway, you seem to have no problem citing stats on how many active users there are on both forums...got them stats on how many political discussions take place here daily as opposed to over there? And how many of your users are not conservative? How many younguns? How many non-whites?

Face it, fyrenza. The other place is nothing but a conservative circle jerk and a racist's paradise. We may have slightly fewer users (and Cigar), but the quality of our discussions and diversity of thought far outpace yours. Even our mod team is made up of a wide range of individuals, rather than a two person tyranny of old, white, vindictive conservative women.

Ocean's neither vindictive nor bitchy and has a motherly personality that makes you warm up to her. Damn, she IP banned you too, lmao fuck.

I was also told that I was IP banned because I didn't post there but I was using the PM there, which is total nonsense because I never signed in after I told her I was leaving. The only thing I did was lurk without signing in, because why not? I had no hard feelings, just needed to leave because of the bullshit I was getting.

It seems power, even inconsequential power, can make people go a little nuts.

I don't know. That other forum like this one. I looked and found out I was banned without breaking a rule. Just friends with the wrong people, I guess.

Yeah, Trinn is a good gal. Always been cool with me.

She just gets wacky with this forum shit, she was that way when she was a mod here also, which is why she left.

Don't know, don't care. I'm responsible for my own actions, but I shouldn't be responsible for the actions of others. I was always polite there and got banned.
