French President Nicholas Sarkozy has said there are too many immigrants in France and the system for integrating them is working less and less well.
He was defending his promise to cut the number of new arrivals in half if he is re-elected next month.
In an interview on French TV, Mr Sarkozy suggested immigrants should be required to have lived 10 years in France to be eligible for benefits.
Mr Sarkozy is trailing in the opinion polls behind the Socialist candidate.

Didn't realize he was trailing a socialist. That's pretty bad. Sounds like Le Pen (the daughter) is having an effect on him. Living in France for at least 10 years before benefits seems like a step in the right direction.
