Any chance we could get a new skin option? Something with a little darker background?

We can look into it. I have mentioned something about it, although in a different context.

It would be nice if members could change their own color scheme.

Right, that's how it works.

Someone just needs to develop a new skin (or a bunch of them, have choices). It can be done manually (I've done it for forums I've ran) or there's probably default skin options available from VBulletin.

On the main page down in the lower left-hand corner are skin options. Right now there's the default (the main white/blue skin), a large text version and mobile. More skin options can be added that have dark/colored, etc. options to choose from.

@Adelaide (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=473) does our colors, I mean colours. I am not even going to try.

I don't see any reason why not. It would be nice to dress it up a bit.

@ADMIN (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1) would have to decide if/what changes can be made and whether we could afford someone to design a skin.

Putting skins together is pretty simple. I could do one for you if you gave me temp access to the admin panel. It's really not tough. I bet ADMIN just throws a couple together.

Adelaide and Captain Obvious, whatever you choose to do is fine with me.

Here are some skins you may wish to review:

We also still have all the skins that were designed before and voted on in the moderator room. At one point, "On the Serious Side" had a darker skin, if that is of interest.

Yeah, I figured the platform support forum might have downloadable skin options.

Anything is fine with me as long as it's a different/darker/easier on the eye option. The blue/white option is a little too sharp for me.

Captain Obvious , I have renamed the Other Discussions template to "Dark Background" and made it selectable. Please try it and see if it meets your needs.

ADMIN

Thanks but the white background where text is is still there, that glare is hard on the eyes. It's really the white part that's the issue.

ADMIN

Captain Obvious, try it now.

Yeah, that's a little better. Thanks ADMIN

Captain Obvious, I have made it darker.

If it is still an issue, please experiment with a screenshot and a hex editor, and then give me the code of the background color you prefer. Thank you.

ADMIN - I see, it is a little darker. That's much, much better - it's easier to see without all the white-out glare.

Thanks again!

Skin bacteria stays largely unchanged over time...
Skin bacteria stay 'stable over time'
Fri, 06 May 2016 - Everyone has their own personal range of bacteria living on their skin that stays largely unchanged over time, a US study suggests.

It found sites of oily skin, such as backs and ears, had the most stable microbial fingerprints. But even exposed dry sites such as palms were relatively stable. Feet were among the areas that changed most in their microbial make-up, perhaps due to factors such as personal hygiene. Human skin is home to a wide range of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Most are harmless or even beneficial, but some have been linked with skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis and eczema.

Research into how skin bugs vary across the body helps explain why eczema tends to affect moist sites such as the bends of the arms, while psoriasis commonly occurs on dry exposed areas such as the elbows. But it has been unclear how communities of bacteria, viruses and fungi found across the skin vary over time and how these changes might affect health.

Microbial signatures

In a study published in the journal, Cell, researchers took skin samples from 12 healthy people at three times over a period of one month to two years, encompassing 17 areas of the body. Heidi Kong, of the National Cancer Institute, and Julie Segre, of the National Human Genome Research Institute, found healthy individuals kept their own unique microbial signatures despite exposure to clothes, washing, other people and the outside world. However, the stability of skin bugs varied among individuals and microbial strains, with some showing more changes than others.

In the future, the scientists plan to study patients with eczema and other conditions to look at how microbes might vary with disease. "Future studies can use the knowledge of the relative stability of the skin microbial communities in healthy adults to understand how various exposures or disease state may alter these skin microbes," said Dr Segre. "For example, studies in acne patients could explore whether specific strains bloom during adolescent acne flares or change with medications such as antibiotics."

New psoriasis drug almost on the market...
http://www.politicalforum.com/images/smilies/fingerscrossed.gif
Morphosys moves closer to getting first antibody drug on market
October 1, 2016 - German biotech Morphosys moved a step closer to getting its first antibody drug onto the market as its licensee, Johnson & Johnson unit Jenssen, reported positive results from a phase 3 study of psoriasis drug guselkumab.

Johnson & Johnson said earlier the experimental biotech drug proved more effective at clearing moderate to severe cases of the skin condition than a placebo or Abbvie's Humira, the world's top-selling prescription medicine.

A Morphosys spokesman said on Saturday that guselkumab could now become its first drug to market, depending on whether and when Johnson & Johnson makes an application. Morphosys gets milestone payments during the development phase and would receive royalties from Johnson & Johnson once it goes on sale.

It has another drug in phase 3 study with Roche, for Alzheimer's disease, and one in phase 2 - which in this case is likely to be the final phase - with Bayer, for asbestos-related lung cancer.

I have had chicken pox as a child. My dad got psoriasis and said it sucked big time. So hopefully this new treatment works.
