She--Wallis--is cute, and Fox does a lot of good movies, but I hate that blond chick, Diaz.

Is the movie a musical, I hate those too. Musicals on stage are OK, but in movies, not.

Not gonna lie, when Marvel decided to make Nick Fury black I was a little "Huh?" But really, it is a comic book setting - who cares? When they made Heimdal on Thor black I was like - "Wait a second...*googling through online comics* I thought he was white?"

But again, it's a comic. It really doesn't matter. There are some who would say the culture is being eroded and such. And in a way they are right.

But they are fighting the wrong battle by placing value on something that has none intrinsically. It makes no sense to get your gears spun up over something meaningless as well as something that you cannot change.

They were fictional stories to begin with, so what does it matter that they insert a new fiction into it? Or put their own spin on it? Doesn't matter in the slightest.

Exactly. So if they start re-writing history by saying what a noble black man George Washington is, or how MLK was actually Jewish or some other nonsense, then it deserves rebuttal.

But when people start tossing the term 'nigger' around carelessly it just makes no sense. It doesn't enhance dialogue at all, it only causes strife.

However, when black people let it get them all riled up, it doesn't help anything. I have never in my life seen a white guy get all riled up over being called a honkey or a cracker the way some black folks get when some non-black person calls them a 'nigger'. Makes no sense really.

I think white people and other non-blacks get confused with the word actually. They see black people call themselves that all the time and nothing happens, the wrong message is broadcasting.

Yeah, I figured there was an exception but either way, my point is - if the reverse happened, a traditionally black role was now substituted with a white role player, there would be a whole shitload of bedshitting.

It's a double standard and while I don't condone racism, in sort of a way I understand why white people are becoming more and more frustrated at being told they must adhere to a different set of rules than everyone else.

Annie is a fictional character, not one based on reality. Plays are adapted all the time. Sometimes they change the gender, race or ethnicity of characters. As I recall the Wiz was an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz with a black cast. Who cares, either the production is good or it's bad. If someone can afford to buy the rights to produce it, they can do it any way they want to. Changing the race, ethnicity or gender of actual historical figures is a little different, however it has been done before, but usually they change the name, but use the story. As to Quvenzhané Wallis, she is cute as a button. If she can act as well, it will be a fun movie. As I recall, there were black versions of Dr. Doolittle as well as the Nutty Professor which were also quite funny. There have been a bazillion adaptations of Shakespeare's plays starring every race and ethnic group on the planet. A good story line will never go to waste. I don't recall the world going crazy when the umpteen versions of Cleopatra didn't star an Egyptian.

As to anyone who would make the sort of reprehensible remarks about an innocent child as posted in the OP, such a person is utter low life scum whose opinion is a complete waste of cyberspace and is otherwise a complete waste of skin.

Annie was an orphan, if I'm not mistaken. Am I thinking of the correct Annie? She's got rich Daddy Warbucks to stoke her out. Warbucks was a private citizen, who adopted Annie out of the kindness of his heart (as opposed to Annie being rescued by a Nanny State). According to wiki, the Annie comic strip "attracted adult readers with political commentary that targeted (among other things) organized labor (http://thepoliticalforums.com/wiki/Organized_labor), the New Deal (http://thepoliticalforums.com/wiki/New_Deal) and communism (http://thepoliticalforums.com/wiki/Communism)."

So, regardless of race, I highly doubt this version of Annie will be very faithful to the values and social criticisms of the original. I can't believe how many movies I've seen lately that played like DNC campaign commercials, and this Annie will probably fall into that category, and I highly doubt that the child actor's skin color was chosen randomly.

Annie was an orphan and could be played by any race. Jesus probably didn't look Norweigian like he does in a lot of art. I'm sorry, but Santa Claus is white. The Hobbits that live in the shire, and the riders of Rohan, they're white. Othello, he's a moor. Jackie Robinson was black, so Hollywood cast him correctly in 42. Darth Vadar was black, until he was unmasked.
