After 244 years of keeping the crown of knowledge authentication, the president of Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. has decided to turn it over to technology. This decision seems to be more of economic in nature than any other thing. Las year 12000 copies of Encyclopedia Britannica were printed but organization has managed to sell around 8000 copies and 4000 are still remaining to be sold.

On the other hand currently 1 set of Encyclopedia Britannica is costing around US $ 1,400. It seems that no one is willing to buy Encyclopedia Britannica duo to high prices. The e version of Encyclopedia Britannica will only cost the organization estimated US $70 a year, which is a cheaper option compared to printed version.

This would be and most probably be the last printed version of Encyclopedia Britannica (http://www.worldrealnews.com/). By the end of this we have to say Good Bye to the 244 year era of history and start a new page!....snip~

Thanks M.A.....looks like they made the leap. 70 dollars a year. With all the free info, I wonder if that will even help them. When people have no money to go out with their families or are going out less. I doubt they will spend money on such a service.

What do you think?

I can't see people paying $70 a year for that information, not with all the other free resources available. Although it could be handy for parents to have that as a subscription for kids if they are limiting which sites the kids go to. Wikipedia like we have discusses has pluses and minuses when it comes to being used a research tool for school subjects.

 That's awesome.

Did you see how EB listed "the so-called greenhouse effect" ?

Free dictionary and thesaurus too. Wow, that takes me back.

My wife was saying she thinks schools will still use it.....but then I was like what would be the justification for the cost with all the other free sources out there?

The book version is a waste of space and of resources. And my parents bought me a set when I was young- (of course there wasn't an alternative then).
