It isn't a big surprise. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2121342/Middle-class-children-held-childcare-suffer-significant-declines-development.html

The study, being presented today at the Royal Economic Society’s annual conference, suggests that childcare leads to a substantial drop-off in parents’ involvement in their children’s upbringing. The damaging effects are most marked for boys and for youngsters aged from birth to two, prompting the researchers to suggest that childcare may not ‘be suited for children aged zero to two’. Academics from Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, studied a highly subsidised childcare scheme in Quebec.

Is this piece saying just Middle Class Children only for those in Canada......Pete?

The poorest youngsters benefit from being in nurseries or with childminders, and wealthy parents can afford the highest quality childcare.

Families who took part in the scheme were compared with similar families elsewhere in Canada, with 10,000 youngsters a year being studied.

I would except the poorest kids are better off outside of their homes anyway. And wealthy people can afford nannys.

Yes, I believe that the study focused on middle class people.

Why would the findings be different based on nationality? At least so far as the children are concerned.

Financially, day care is subsided in Canada.

Like I said, I don't see why a similar study in the US would turn out differently.

Well like you said before too. Daycare has subsided in Canada, while it has expanded more here.
