View Full Version : Catholic League Threatens To Boycott Jon Stewart and the Daily Show.....

A "Daily Show" segment that criticized Fox News for ignoring the GOP's "war on women" while highlighting the left's "war on Christmas" has drawn the ire of the Catholic League.

This unprecedented vulgar assault on Christians cannot stand. If Jon Stewart doesn't apologize, we will mount a boycott of his show's advertisers. And we will enlist our allies in the Protestant, Jewish, Mormon and Muslim communities.....

The cover-up is revealing. This episode of "The Daily Show" was done to protest Fox's alleged indifference to the "war on women," and in doing so Stewart not only made a vulgar attack on Christians, he objectified women.

We are asking Stewart to apologize. If he does not, we will mobilize Protestants, Jews, Mormons and Muslims to join us in a boycott of his sponsors. Moreover, we will not stop with a boycott; there are other things that can be done to register our outrage. We are prepared to spend the money it takes to make this a nationwide issue, and we are prepared to stay the course.....snip~

Looks Like the Catholic League is taking a Play out of Sharptons Book.....Sharptones might want to take notice. He might be next. Now that is one battle I would like to see. Sharptones taking on the Catholics.

Stewart needs to be reminded of that backlash with using comedy as a strategy tool for Liberals and the Democrats.

You can't blame the Catholic League. They are just doing what every other aggrieved party has been taught to do.

Can't say I'll miss Stewart or anyone like him. He does his nation a disservice.

Who would you say has more money the Catholics or the MSDNC Sponsors of the Daily Show? At times he has been funny. But like Maher they can't hang with the real comedians.

I must say... if you wanna criticize Stewart that whole Christmas war thing is a pretty stupid one to pick... especially for religious institutions, since most of it focus on the Christmas tree aspect.... which is pretty obviously a relatively recent invention (it appeared only by the 16th /17th C at best) and is actually likely an adoptation of pagan symbolism too (the irony! the tree was first recorded in Prussia / Livonia, which was the last bastion of European Pagans)

(Not to meantion that Catholics were very slow to adopt the tree and even today still tend to prefer the Christmas Cribs....)

They might have a better pick on the women's war thing, though there Stewart make some legitimite point at least, most women use contraception, and the original congressional hearing with 5 men on the subject is pretty laughable.

As for Stewart vs other Comedian, comedy is in the eyes of the beholder, people find relavant subjects funny, I for one find it harder to connect with comedian bits on entertainers who I don't even know.

Yes thats true.....I was thinking more along the lines of being stand-up comedians as for those in that industry.

I'm sure TDS is quaking in its boots.

It's great publicity for the show. :)

 I'm thinking people who are easily offended probably aren't tuning in to this show to begin with. I don't see how a boycott is going to do a thing.

True, but Stewart was obviously a relatively successful one to begin with or he wouldn't have landed TDS to begin with. obviously if he was really the best of the best he might have landed The Tonight Show or something  but he found a new territory that was not sufficiently explored and have obviously done well since.

I have been trying to think of the name of the female stand up comedian that found Stewart and was the first producer of the Show. She is always on MSDNC and always has tuned her comedy towards criticsms of those on the right. Stewart didn't do to much stand-up comedy as you said she discovered him and found that niche. One tends to see most of the others go way of the comedy movies.

Yes, this is what the Catholic League is talking about. BTw the Female Comedian I think that discovered him her name is Jan Brewer. Plus like I said she is always on MSDNC,

MMC

Jan Brewer is a comedian alright, but her primary gig is governor of Arizona.

Stewart had a show on MTV before TDS. He's not a comedian. He's got a show with great writers, that addresses current issues. That's the formula for success.
Same with Colbert.

Look how many people have become successful as a result of their time on TDS.

Yeah, its not Brewer. Plus I know it's not Ms Brown who Stewart has on the show. I can see the womans face to. Just can't remember her name.

Kinda like all those that got Famous on Imus.....huh?

MMC

I know who you're talking about too, but I don't remember her name.

Stern rode Imus' coattails, but I don't know anyone who's got their own successful t.v shows as a result of time on Imus?

Joe Scarborough for one. Back when he was the Jr Congressman. As well as him being Editor of the Florida Sun.

Btw that female comedian isn't bad looking either. Brunette. I remember when she was younger and doing the Stand-Up. Plus her talking about Second City and SNL with Belushi.

Jan Hooks? I'm thinking no because she's obscure but maybe...

His show is on Comedy Central, not on a cable news network...I've only watched it a few times - it's just not my cup of tea, however, I doubt a Jew is gonna kowtow to the Catholic League nor do I doubt the Jew controlled Comedy Central would pull Stewart's show just because the Catholic League is pissing it's pants over a skit, just as I doubt he'll lose any if at all advertising dollars...

This story is more about empty promises and pseudo huffy puffy chest pounding than anything else.

What was Chappelle's contract worth before he went coo coo for coco puffs bat out of hell to Africa? Something like two hundred and fifty million dollars...and Stewart has almost the same type of cult like following as Chappelle once had, I'm not saying Stewart's worth two fifty - he probably makes about ten or fifteen million a year, give or take million...point being - The Daily Show nor Stewart is going anywhere unless his contract runs out.

If anything it will boost his ratings. I doubt anything will come of it. Still it's the point of groups like these that will now follow the same type of play as those on the left do. Both sides will now attempt to go after sponsers all because they don't like something they're hearing.

I figure if they don't like it.....then turn the channel. Still I figure it will run the 3 days newscycle.

That play has been going on for a long time, since the days of radio shows during the thirties - religious groups rallying against advertisers, it didn't start out as a right left paradigm it's only ended up that way...keep in mind that before the left calling for Limbaugh's fat ass to be pushed under a bus, the right did the same to Maher's egotistical ass...

It's their right to do so, what I think is great is that eventually no one's gonna pay attention to either of them though, I say let them get it out of their systems, bitch - banter - bane all they want, then tell 'em to shut the fuck up when they're done - send 'em them to their room, put 'em on restriction - then put 'em on probation...

Jesus’s angry older brother Bill Donohue sat up all last night wishing and hoping and thinking and praying that blasphemer Jon Stewart would give him a call in order to apologize for his televised slur against the holiest of holies (vaginas, hoohahs, va-jayjays, Play-Doh and bacon mash-ups (http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2007/04/27/ace-of-spades-fears-the-vagina/)) but Stewart did not call and Bill Donohue is not about to turn the other cheek (http://www.catholicleague.org/campaign-against-jon-stewart-begins/)[Matthew 5:38-42] like that big homo Jesus kind of suggested:

Jon Stewart refused to apologize last night for the unprecedented assault on Christian sensibilities he launched on April 16. In that episode, “The Daily Show” featured a naked woman with her legs spread and a nativity scene ornament placed between her legs; with the picture on the screen, Stewart laughed at what he called the “vagina manger.” To see the picture, click here (http://www.catholicleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/JonStewartManger1.jpg).

Our effort against Stewart includes asking his most consistent sponsors to pull their advertising (if necessary, we are not ruling out a boycott of their products), and a lengthy public relations campaign. The goal? To get him to apologize. If that doesn’t work, we can guarantee that his reputation will never be the same.

And that is not all, no-siree bob…

This is just the beginning. Over the next several weeks, we will contact every major Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Mormon and Muslim leader and organization in the nation; they will be sent the picture, along with Stewart’s remarks.

Because if there is one thing that Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Mormons and Muslims can all agree upon, it is the primacy of the female above all others, for She is the reason that man is put upon Earth (by the appropriate and respective God of each religion) so that man may better serve Her and bear Her children and make Her sandwiches and listen to Her describe Her day spent at home raising the children (Ann Romney only) and so: Jon Stewart, dude, you don’t talk smack about the pussy, ‘kay?

Also this (http://deadspin.com/5894799/gentlemen-please-stop-crushing-vaginas) too.

I did likeThe Chappelle Show and still think some of the South Park episodes are funny...they've had a couple of other shows that I've liked over the years, none of them lasted for more than two seasons though.

These days I don't even bother watching television unless it's something from one of the movie channels without commercials or sports related programming.

This is what I love about organized religion - what fucking card-carrying Catholic Leaguer watches Comedy Central?

Just like the Catholic Church, they take these hardline positions while the average Catholic really doesn't give a fuck - and that's a good thing.

Fuck the Catholic League.

Yeah I could see it meaning something, say if they had a Catholic League like down in Central and South America. With organized religion one always gets organized groups. Although Sharptones needs no organization for anything.
