We have entered into the month dedicated to the two faced Roman god Janus. Yes, January.

Janus is the god of beginnings and endings and that is why he is depicted with two faces.

Janus presided over the beginning and ending of conflict, and hence war and peace. The doors of his temple were open in time of war, and closed to mark the peace. As a god of transitions, he had functions pertaining to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus)birth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Roman_birth_and_childhood_deities) and to journeys and exchange, and in his association with (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus)Portunus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portunes), a similar harbor and gateway god, he was concerned with travelling, trading and shipping. Janus was actually the most worshipped deity in the city of Rome for hundreds of years.
