Is this a good thing then?

Rose deserves VIP, she's a lovely gal, smart and a productive member.

Why hanger was chosen over far more productive and smarter members like @Common (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=659) and @Common Sense (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1085) and a couple others is beyond me. @Safety (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1226) is one who should be considered and @sachem (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=974).

Why @Alyosha (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=863) isn't a VIP is beyond me, maybe there's more to that story. Why @The Wash (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=906) is is also beyond me, he's never around. And @Guerilla (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=606) , rarely posts.

When active, productive members are passed by for schlocks who are chosen out of popularity or because of which way they tilt politically is only going to cause these active members who are thrown to the curb to become indifferent to the forum.

But, who am I to question.

Rose deserves VIP, she's a lovely gal, smart and a productive member.

...with a temper. :)

Why hanger was chosen over far more productive

Productive =/= polite or savvy

and smarter members like @Common (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=659) and @Common Sense (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1085)

will disagree

and a couple others is beyond me. @Safety (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1226) is one who should be considered and @sachem (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=974).

Safety is indeed smart and polite whilst sachem posts nothing but snark.

Why @Alyosha (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=863) isn't a VIP is beyond me, maybe there's more to that story.

Trounces everyone like a political MMA fighter

Why @The Wash (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=906) is is also beyond me,

Affirmative Action

he's never around. And @Guerilla (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=606) , rarely posts.

Smarter than most on here.

When active, productive members are passed by for schlocks who are chosen out of popularity or because of which way they tilt politically is only going to cause these active members who are thrown to the curb to become indifferent to the forum.

If I were to create a group of VIPs it would remain at 4 who post no less than 20 posts per day and they would act as moderator oversight, nothing more. If someone had issue with moderation it would go to that group, else there's no use for them.

It would consist of people who actively donate time and money to the forum, therefore they are relevant stakeholders, and they would likewise be people who are trusted by forum members.

Currently it's a coloured label affixed to a member's name, absolutely meaningless. Perhaps they vote on board issues, perhaps, but considering most of them don't post that often I cannot see how. It is in its own way a popularity contest, whilst also being smart enough to not bring in those who are actually popular.

@Captain Obvious (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=3) asked why not @Alyosha (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=863)? I'll tell you why. Aside from her ability to disintegrate her political opponent when she's feeling moody, she's also entirely too popular to put on a VIP staff. When that happens, and it has, were she to leave others go with her. You can look at the post counts when she's online versus those post counts when she's not. People prefer to fight with her or watch her fight with others.

Aside from that, she's better as a balancing force outside the system. How often is she able to soothe two posters who are fighting when mods are unable to do so?

I figured as much but I'm not in the loop on much anymore.

I just think it's a mistake to try to impact the political affiliation of the forum by deciding who mods or VIP's based on political affiliation and/or popularity at the cost of slighting those members who are productive and active.

That's all I'm saying on the matter.

Hangar and Redrose are active and the former far more polite than some of the more popular liberal posters you, yourself produced. Sachem? Really? When has she contributed more than mild snark to any given subject? You might as well ask why del is not a VIP?

They don't come to post on politics, they come for personal amusement. Nothing wrong with that. Those that come to post on politics are more engaged and usually write a paragraph at least, albeit small, in a particular discussion.

I mean, it's true.....if we're talking about intelligence and contributions to the forum in terms of civility and post quantity, there are a lot of people in there who should be out and a lot of people out who should be in, but it doesn't seem to be that way, it seems to be a popularity contest, like most things in life that are voted on by a majority.

Very few of the VIPs participate with regularity aside from those two. Nic's not often around. Impress Polly saves up all the posting normals do and then creates a dissertation no one reads. Wash comes on special holidays. Guerilla is a guerilla poster. And of the mods it's a rarity that I see adelaide post.

I don't think that participation has anything to do with it. It is, in its own way, a popularity contest and wisely done for appearances.

I think he's more active on Trinns board.

But, who am I to question.

It's not like we sit around constantly reviewing members for VIP. Once someone is in, no ones really going to kick them out unless they go dumb all over the forum or they completely stop posting. KC only got taken off because he asked. Posting a lot is not a criteria, as far as I know. A lot of the time a new VIP is suggested to attempt to balance the politics in the VIP room because of pressure from members always bitching about it being a popularity/political persuasion contest.

I'm pretty sure sachem and alyoshas name have been tossed around, I don't think alyosha cares enough to accept the invite. Some members get the invite and don't want it.

Don't look into things too much.

I didn't put a vote on hanger because he's probably cool, but I don't hardly see him, because I don't think we are interested in the same threads. Some people probably see each other on the forum more because they are interested in the same subjects. I voted for redrose, I think she wants honest conversation. I don't care if she has a temper, if anything, I think more members need to get abrasive sometimes. This is politics, not light discussion with tea and krumpets. There is no way that the women of this forum would vote for Alyosha for VIP and I doubt that the invitation was extended. If it was, I'd eat my hat.

As for Sachem, I would believe that her name came up and I would not doubt that someone of her standing could be voted in. She's the exact sort of poster like Hanger that leaves only the barest of impressions, which is what a VIP staff would/could need.

There was some question about what the role of the VIP was, which is why I'm not a VIP any longer. There was a push from some former mods/VIP's to have VIP's be "model citizens" or "role models" for the rest of the form and since that's like a complete contradiction to what I actually am I was asked to leave. But face it, it's really just an exclusive club. There's nothing going on behind the scenes that needs a forum Congress of sorts.

But you just don't want people in there based on post count either, there are a lot of intangibles, or should be. I guess that went by the wayside.

Alright I'm done, somebody threadban me.

Thread bans for further questioning of mod...last chance children

There was some question about what the role of the VIP was, which is why I'm not a VIP any longer. There was a push from some former mods/VIP's to have VIP's be "model citizens" or "role models" for the rest of the form and since that's like a complete contradiction to what I actually am I was asked to leave. But face it, it's really just an exclusive club. There's nothing going on behind the scenes that needs a forum Congress of sorts.

But you just don't want people in there based on post count either, there are a lot of intangibles, or should be. I guess that went by the wayside.

Alright I'm done, somebody threadban me.
@PolWatch (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=1099) ?

Coup de gras please.

If you were to have been threadbanned for questioning moderation it ought to have been several posts ago. She can't ban you now after warning you.

She's too alpha. It wouldn't happen.

I was just saying that I personally would be ok with it and would happily give up my spot for her or several other people here that I think would do a good job.

They were chosen based on merit, not popularity or political tilt.

Matalese i'm sure you weren't very happy with the FSU vs Oregon game, but how do you think FSU will do next year without Jameis Winston as your teams quarterback? He was the main reason that FSU was able to stay in as many games as they did this year from what I've heard.

I am unable to discuss that matter as it is off topic!

Sorry I just haven't seen you on here since that Oregon game and so I didn't want to create a whole new thread topic just to ask that question. Nevermind then.

Isn't there a sports forum in which to ask it?

del has been banned from this thread. Don't respond to his posts.

The topic is a well-wishing for hangar4 and Redrose. If you don't want to wish them well, get out of the thread.

This is my best guess. I don't ask these types of questions because that would imply an interest that goes beyond passing and my penchant for criticism.

Productive =/= polite or savvy

Safety is indeed smart and polite whilst sachem posts nothing but snark.

What a mess!

Everyone who turned this thread into a discussion on the new VIPs, the staff, and each other are clods and should be ashamed of themselves!
