I was curious to see what the forum thinks of this.

Personally, this company has my full support.

I don't know how I feel about this. There are 2 possibilities:

1) A sincere effort to honor fallen Americans

2) A callous attempt to profit from fallen Americans

I do have a couple of questions. I'm assuming that he has obtained the permission of the families before using the names. I know of some who would not think having a loved one's name on a beer can an honor. How much of a 'portion' of the sale price is donated?

Since the families are choosing the charities, it is a reasonable assumption that they have given permission. On further study, the assumption is correct. Here is a quote from the owner's wife.

“We work intimately with the families of the fallen we are honoring,” she says. “The families are based all over the country. They’re excited to know someone on the other side of the country knows about their loved one.”

The portion appears to be 5% of the sale price.

Given his background, I find it unlikely that this is a callous attempt at profit.

Brewery owner Seth Jordan (http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/search/results?q=Seth%20Jordan) spent 10 years as a helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps, and served multiple combat tours. He left the Corps last year, and wanted to start a craft brewery to honor fallen warriors, his wife Katy says.
