A study (http://www.cato.org/publications/policy-analysis/american-welfare-state-how-we-spend-nearly-$1-trillion-year-fighting-poverty-fail)
in April 2012 by the Cato Institute says that America spends nearly $1 trillion each year to fight poverty. Since Obama took office, federal welfare spending has increased by 41 percent (http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/PA694.pdf)
. But despite increased spending, the poverty rate that remains at nearly 15 percent, roughly where it was in 1965, when President Johnson declared his War on Poverty. In fact, the poverty rate has never fallen below 10.5 percent. The Cato Institute study also says that current programs are focused on making welfare recipients more comfortable -- providing more food, better shelter, and health care for poor people -- rather than proving the tools that will help poor people escape poverty.

Subject: Irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest amount of free
meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S.
Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals."

Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow
dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.

This ends today's lesson.

How did people every survive before socialism?

Families and neighbors took care of each other...then the gummit thought it could do a better job. We see how that's working out.

Not too well, not too well at all. Too many anointed visions and fatal conceits. It's depressing.

How did people every survive before socialism? They kept more of their own money. They had help from family and their church. Small communities helped each other with labor on things they needed to build. People helped each other.

Sentiment was also boosted after US Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen allayed fears of an interest rate rise this month. Wellington's NZX 50 and Sydney's ASX 200 both rose in early trading, led by mining shares.

Japan's Nikkei 225 was up 0.3%, while South Korea's Kospi index gained 0.7%. Investors will also be watching for interest rate decisions from central banks in Australia and India on Tuesday.
