What ever became of crack babies? Hurricane Katrina super-coverage by the media? Was the NYT actually responsible for the Bay of Pigs fiasco? All these & more! - as the blurb writers tend to say. A very readable, but important series of balloon-popping stories. The US print media, especially, have gone loopy over awarding themselves prizes, & being proud of standing on ever-shrinking ground.

Here's a partial antidote. The media never want to go back & fix mistaken impressions - especially when they've caused them. See the Jessica Lynch story, for instance.

We have adopted a Canadian attention span and will not pay attention to anything that don't have lots of motion and bright colors. Even then after 8 seconds we are no longer interested.

The Canadians brought our people out of Iran when our embassy was attacked. God love them.

You're correct about the attention span.
