ATLANTA - Police say former NBA player Javaris Crittenton has been charged with murder after a woman was shot on an Atlanta street.

Police spokesman Carlos Campos says police have secured a murder warrant for the arrest of Crittenton, who played at Georgia Tech, in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Jullian Jones on Aug. 19. Campos said Crittenton is not in custody and is wanted....snip~

This guy is nothing but a punk. The NBA got rid of him and he manages to go to China to play basketball.

Investigators say they don't believe the woman was the intended target. Campos said the motive appears to be retaliation for a robbery in April, in which Crittenton was a victim.

Crittenton was suspended for the final 38 games of the 2009-10 season by the NBA after he and Arenas acknowledged bringing guns into the locker room. Two days after a dispute stemming from a card game on a team flight, Arenas brought four guns to the locker room and set them in front of Crittenton's locker with a sign telling him to "PICK 1." Crittenton then took out his own gun.

Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge on Jan. 25, 2010, and received probation.....snip~

Looks like not only Murder Charge but Violation of Probation too. Another gun Charge as well. The FBI is also involved. Hope they get him before he leaves the country. Althought the article says she was shot by someone inside the SUV. If there was more than one person inside the vehicle they would have to prove it was him that shot her. But they could still charge him with accessary to the murder if the SUV was his. Which it doesn't say if it was. Either way he would still be in violation of probation on a couple of counts. As he cannot have a gun when on such. :-\

Yeah I saw that. Awful, shooting a Mom like that who was just an innocent bystander. This punk needs the book thrown at him, obviously he hasn't learned a thing. I don't think there's any way he can escape, if he gets to China then it'll surprise me. A lot of those gang bangers on these drive bys use those SUVs with the tinted window and it makes it so hard to ID anyone. Here in San Diego they enforce the law prohibiting the tinted glass beyond a certain amount. In L.A. they let you roll however. >:(

Yeah same here. Allowed to tint front and back windshields and only so much. Also back windows. But passaneger and driver side windows arent suppose to be tinted so dark one cant see inside. But rarely do the cops do or say anything. Still hard to prove it was him if he wasnt alone. no witnesses that can identify him 100% accurately. Which will leave doubts with a jury. Which should not prevent them from bringing any other charges too. Cuz this guy needs to be taken off the streets.

Yep...looks like the FBI is closing in:

ATLANTA -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation is helping police in Atlanta and Los Angeles search for a former NBA guard wanted for murder.

FBI Special Agent Steve Emmett in Atlanta told The Associated Press on Sunday that the agency is involved as police look for Javaris Crittenton. Authorities say Crittenton is charged in the fatal shooting of 22-year Jullian Jones, a mother of four who was gunned down Aug. 19 in Atlanta.

Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport said Crittenton was not in custody as of Sunday afternoon. He declined further comment.

Authorities say Jones likely was not the intended target when Crittenton fired shots from an SUV. Authorities say Crittenton was retaliating for an April robbery in which he was a victim.

Crittenton spent the 2006-07 season at Georgia Tech and played in 113 NBA games.

Is it normal for the FBI to get involved in a case like this? Why would they?

Interesting that you say that, because I follow pro sports pretty closely and there are a lot of black athletes that somehow seem to be avoiding that bullseye while less well known folks irregardless of skin color seem end up catching time. I wonder why this is...

The FBI nailed him:

"SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton, who was suspended from the league for having guns in a locker room with teammate Gilbert Arenas, was arrested Monday in Southern California to face a murder charge in a deadly Atlanta shooting.

Crittenton was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. at John Wayne Airport in Orange County after checking in for a Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

Eimiller said he was arrested without incident by FBI agents with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities were trying to determine whether Crittenton will make an initial appearance in federal court, or be taken directly to Atlanta to face state charges there.

"He offered to turn himself in," lawyer Brian Steel told The Associated Press earlier Monday. "He's not guilty. We look forward to getting it to the courts."

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported that Crittenton planned to surrender in Atlanta."

FBI might have thought he was a flight risk. But I think walking into the NBA lockerroom with a firearm and being arrested for those charges awhile back. Showed where his mentality was.

Critter won't say why he was in California:

The judge said Crittenton will be returned to Atlanta between Sept. 15 and Sept. 30, but Steel said he would seek to have him returned sooner.

Asked why Crittenton had flown to California, Steel said that would come out at the preliminary hearing.

Crittenton was taken into custody Monday night at John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

Do these guys get charged for the flight or is the cost of his ticket and the escort paid by taxpayers??
