The statue of Penn State's late, disgraced former football coach Joe Paterno has been taken down, after university officials announced (http://live.psu.edu/story/60474) early Sunday its decision to remove it.

"I now believe that, contrary to its original intention, coach Paterno's statue has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing in our university and beyond," university president Rodney Erickson said in a statement (http://live.psu.edu/story/60474). "I believe that, were it to remain, the statue will be a recurring wound to the multitude of individuals across the nation and beyond who have been the victims of child abuse."

The decision comes on the heels of a damning 267-page report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh, which concluded Paterno concealed information about former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of underage boys.....snip~

They Even covered the head up when they took it down. The legend no more. Think he will now need to get himself an attorney?

And the sanctions against the program will be severe. I imagine the program will be shut down for at least one year.

We had some guy move into the neighborhood. He is a Huge Steeler fan. Had all kinds of Steelers shit up all over his yard plus one of those Ballon type ones thats stays filled with air. The next day he woke up and found all those Cheapy little Bears Flags all over his yard. Banners tied around trees. Plus a big Sign that said.....This is Bears Country!

He died, they can say whatever they want now. Fact is he did report an incident like he was suppose to do and the school said they did a full investigation and found nothing. Who was really covering up, him or the school? How many are really at fought here?

Did he call the cops? I think that he was high enough in the organization to have an affirmative duty to report to authorities- not just his leadership.

He let the officers at the college know and the ones on the board. It is their responsibility to get state police involved if they had enough suspicion to believe a crime was committed. This was a coach not an investigator nor should he be placed into this position. He went by the rules of the college.

He had a legal duty to call the cops. Did he do that?

The cops on the campus were notified. That is the first step a coach has a duty to do and he even brought it up to and the board came back and told him nothing was found after a full investigation. He said he didn't see anything but he suspected something wasn't right and stuck his neck out. He had no proof. I guess he thought that they had tracked down the boy he saw and questioned him. If they did or didn't the young man may have denied the whole thing. At least he didn't turn a blind eye to what he suspected. The cops on the campus and the board only has a right to call in the city police.
