Need a ride friend?

Richard Jones told WFTV (http://www.wftv.com/news/news/local/man-snaps-unique-picture-raccoon-top-gator-ocala-n/nmcmC/) took the photo while he and his family walked along the Oklawaha River in the Ocala National Forest. Jones said the raccoon must have been startled by the family, and hopped on top of the alligator near the river's bank. "I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you'd think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing," Jones said in an email to WFTV (http://www.wftv.com/news/news/local/man-snaps-unique-picture-raccoon-top-gator-ocala-n/nmcmC/). "Definitely the photo of a lifetime http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Florida-Man-Captures-Photo-of-Raccoon-Riding-Alligator-307303761.html

Imagine what the raccoon was thinking when he discovered what he was standing on!

If the alligator was not hungry it was a safe ride.

I wonder if the gator knew he was on his back. If the gator went under the water, the raccoon would be lunch.

Likely the alligator didn't connect the slight extra weight with a hitchhiker - they aren't very bright. Luckily raccoons don't weigh much, they are mostly fur. I'm sure as soon as the raccoon realized what he was standing on, he couldn't get off fast enough. It's a wonder that he didn't have a heart attack - they are apparently quite susceptible to dropping dead from fright.

Another example of stranger danger!
