The premise here is similar to that of the Whachoo Listenin' To? thread obviously, but dedicated specifically to what show tunes and/or game tunes or adaptations thereof (e.g. remixes or orchestral versions of game soundtracks) you're enjoying at present. I'll start us off:

Today I'm listening to Crypt of the Necro Dancer's soundtrack, which is my favorite game soundtrack of the year. :cool2: For those who don't know, Crypt of the Necro Dancer is the world's first ever rhythm-based dungeon-crawler. You know, like other old-fashioned Dungeons & Dragons-style role-playing games, you spend the whole game navigating a dungeon wherein you combat monsters, level up, and gather items. However, in this game you do so by matching button inputs to a beat, as movement and combat are timing-based. You can play it the boring way, with a keypad, or the fun way (my way), with a dance pad. How many other RPGs can be played with a dance pad? For inventing a new genre, Crypt of the Necro Dancer is indisputably one of the most creative games of the year, and in my view it has the coolest, catchiest soundtrack. Check it out:

Note: The above soundtrack contains two versions of each tune: the first half consists of the default versions, while the second half consists of the same songs, but with the inclusion of the shopkeeper singing along (which is awesome!).

Great picks, guys! And Ethereal, I've gotta agree with you that the soundtracks for the classic Donkey Kong Country games from the 1990s were outstanding! (I love ambience and the DKC games introduced me to that style.) In fact, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest has my favorite game soundtrack of all time. Here's my favorite song from that game:

Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game ever. And you know it's good because so many people agree. It's got to be the most beloved of the entire series.

I think the fact that the game was the first 3D conception of FF combined with the incredible story arc and character development created a once-in-a-lifetime gaming experience for an entire generation of gamers. Kids these days will never know how special that game really was.

Although Final Fantasy is my favorite series of games, my favorite gaming company has to be Nintendo, even though the last Nintendo system I owned and played was Nintendo 64. From NES to N64 was an amazing series of consoles and games. So many great memories.

Wow, suddenly lots of participation today! Some of these tunes I haven't even heard before (or at least recollect). Thanks everyone!

Nah! He posted a concert version, you posted the original. There's a valid aesthetic difference.

FF VII was beyond good: it was revolutionary in terms of the level of storytelling that it introduced to not just RPGs, but to video games as a medium! I mean in terms of defying existing genre cliches, in terms of character development, in terms of the sheer number of plot twists and the overall length of the game, all of that. Definitely one of the all-time greats.

My sentiments exactly. I'll definitely be getting the new one, though I doubt it will be quite as magical to me at this point. There are too many games out there that have cashed in on that particular game's formula for a remake to seem all that novel to me, honestly. But the game is undeniably an all-time great that deserves its props and this new one will doubtless be the best version.

I still like both Square Enix and Nintendo to this day, though really most of my favorite games anymore are indies. I'm developed into kind of an anti-industry person over the years.

WELL...

As this is a music thread, I guess I ought to justify this hitherto text post somehow. Alright, here's another excellent classic for you, Ethereal, from your fave publisher:

I've played a couple of indy developed games recently. WMMA and TEW 13. They're text based sims of MMA and pro wrestling, respectively. Recommended if you're a fan of either sport and like playing text based games.

On the topic of the FF7 remake though, it's been announced that some if the story will be changed, so that should be interesting.

Yeah, it's better that way as long as they don't royally screw it up. That means we have some new content and twists to look forward to.

Here's the background music from Steven Universe: arguably both the most adorable and smartest show on TV. I love the ambient chip tunes the show uses, along with everything else about it.
