Does an ‘alien megastructure’ surround a far-away star? (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/alien-megastructure-could-surround-giant-6632574)

An interesting article about possible alien life being spotted. A cluster of very large object around a star appear to be made by some intelligent life form. Perhaps an advanced civilization discovered a way to harvest the energy from their star.

When planet spotters studied KIC 8462852 they noticed a swarm of objects surrounding it in an usual pattern

At first it was thought to be comets, shrapnel from an asteroid impact or even a mistake in the data.

But astronomer Jason Wright from Penn State University (http://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/penn-university) offered a more science fiction explanation.

He believes it could be an 'alien megastructure' designed to harness energy from the star.

He said: "Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build."

Eventually we will find something, that is if they havent already found something and keeping it a secret. I just hope if they come here which means they are far more technologically advanced they take pity on us and dont wipe us out. :)

Reminds me a little of Star Trek: Insurrection.

Those who believe that an alien megastructure could exist only in a galaxy or other universe far away are only fooling themselves if they do not also admit to the very strong possibility of existence of alien megastructures right here on our own planet. It has been reported by creditable former commanders and others from the military that such structures exist not only in the North and South Poles but in areas of New Mexico and Arizona and also deep under the ocean. That can only get one to wonder what are they doing there and if there is knowledge of their existence why not share it openly with the citizens of every country on earth? Think of the possibilities of gaining knowledge from alien technology!

Theoretical physics and astronomers should be heard from now and then. But, nothing they come forward with about a guess of what they can't see, to alleviate the boredom of devoting time and money to things they will never know the answer to is more that wish to publish and explain the value of what they have been doing while others have accomplished.

I saw that too. 1% blurry picture with 99% imagination. The concept is physically valid but the execution would require "divine" construction.

Hillary for president? What about Obama's wife, shouldn't she have a chance? Or the sister of Bush, how about Carters wife or daughter? What about you, wouldn't you like to be King or Queen?

Be reasonable We're talking President of The United States. Chances are we might not get someone not fully qualified, but to support someone you know is unqualified and untrustworthy isn't bright.

How about a person on this forum, your choice, we'll print up bumper stickers and pass them out.

True. But the OP is much more mega so far as size goes, as it surrounds an entire star.

Anything sufficiently advanced would appear as magic to us.

Despite all of your rhetoric the fact remains that Hillary is still the best choice because she IS fully qualified to become president! Who else can tout being First Lady, U. S. Senator, and Secretary of State? But I also realize that's precisely why Republicans are targeting her so harshly because they know she is the best qualified and WILL become the next president of the United States and that literally scares the willies out of them! They just need to take a breath and relax and accept that fact.

Mega alien structure around a star far far away from Hillary... focus people.

Its actually a brilliant concept. Gravity is courtesy of the structures rotation rather than mass and the sun would always shine everywhere to provide a steady source of energy. The engineering however is beyond the scope of even the brightest extraterrestrial race.

But do you suppose these possible aliens are legal?

How do you know?

I suspect that landing a man on the moon was beyond the scope of humans 2000 years ago.

Yet it happened in 1969.

If they can harvest the energy from a star I wouldn't have the balls to ask them for their papers.

We might know soon. They are going to point a radio telescope at the star and see if they can catch anyone talking.

I seem to remember Carl Sagan on the original Cosmos speculating that an advanced civilization might be able to build a structure or something that could not only stabilize a star but harness and redirect its energy.

Don't try to ruin a fascinating topic with something completely unrelated.

Again, Hillary has absolutely nothing to do with the fascinating OP.

I think if aq race was advanced enough for interstellar travel, they would have enough knowledge to harness forms of energy we haven't tried to yet. The energy of their sun is one, while the electromagnetic fields of their own planet would be another...

Why? "Von Neumann" construction techniques would automated and cost-free.

Of course any civilization that unleashed uncontrolled Von Neumann machines should probably be exterminated for the good of the rest of the Universe....
