Presented with little comment, via Bloomberg Insider's Convention 2012 Issue; the history of military spending (which we discussed recently) and the $400bn divide between Obama and Romney's agenda.

Yeah, but what do you think about Clinton and Panetta saying we can't sustain obamas Cuts to the military. That it would put the security of the Country at Risk. Plus what about the numbers for forcing the Navy to go green with an Alternative fuel. The Costs have doubled to try and change things out while staying active.

As a noninterventionist I say poppycock! We can't afford not to cut dept of offense spending.

It is interesting tho' that this spending is a good example of conservative socialism even on Obama's part, more so on Romney's.

We should end all aid of any sort to other countries. Let them buy technology available on the market.

I'd like to know what Panetta and Clinton think we'd be at risk of. Making some of our many defense contractors lose profit?

The US can easily cut its defense by 50%- over time. We don't need to be the world police man while being expected to pay for it ourselves. If other nations need help I would ask them, "how much justice can you afford?"

True.

Some minor ways to save money:

We could also implement a policy where a service member has to remain a military installation at least 5-7 years. It's costly to constantly move military families.
As long as we could guarantee a site was secure, we could also cut down on travel by teleconferencing and skyping.

Very true. The military spends a lot of money to move people. When I was enlisted I moved 3 times in 4 years including an overseas tour. That cost a lot of money.
