Bonus points for explanations. Me? Right now, a 64 bit, win 7 desk top. Liquid cooled.

You cant run 32 bit software on a 64 bit machine, you can run some 32 on a 64 bit machine with hardware simulation but not vice versa.
The number of bits in a processor refers to the size of the data types that it handles and the size of its registry. A 64-bit processor is capable of storing 264 computational values, including memory addresses, which means it’s able to access over four billion times as much physical memory than a 32-bit
Dont buy 32 bit

Mmm. The first sentence is not very clear.
- You cannot run 64 bits software on 32 bits hardware.
- You can run 32 bits software in a computer with an installed 64 bits Operating System
- You cannot run more than 4 GB of RAM with 32 bits.
Agreed in conclusion:
Use 64 bits software and Operating systems.

Access more memory with 64.
WOW64 let's you run some 32 bit apps in 64 bit Windows. Can't run 16 bit apps though. See https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa384249(v=vs.85).aspx

Just to test this computers capabilities, I tried loading a year 2000 version of a Lotus program I like. It didn't make the cut.

Most of your more secure software runs 64bit. Just in case that's important.

yes 64bit windows utilizes hardware simulation to run 32 bit software, backward compatible if you rather say it that way

Basically, a 64-Bit OS Machine is 8gb of RAM or more.

Everyone tells me Apple is better.
ok...
We're far from evolved to the point where mutual cooperation is a factor. I wish I could live to see that day.
