I was told by my friend that runs a large custom computer and repair shop about windows 10 spying ability and he gave me this link to read.

If you use windows 10 I strongly suggest you read it. If you use cordana in win 10 you Especially need to read this. The artilce is long but worth the effort to read it.

I haven't installed 10 yet. I'm hoping I won't have to.

But, we're being tracked and recorded in many ways:

I will use win 7 till the bitter end, there is no upside to going to 10 for me

I use 7 at work and I really like it. When I bought a new desktop computer for home a few years ago, I had 8 installed on it and I hate it. The I.T. guys tell me I can't go back and put 7 on it, can't get rid of 8 unless I go to 10, and that if I hate 8 I will really hate 10. "Basically", they tell me, "you're screwed."

10 is far more like 7 than 8, so I don't know what they're talking about.

Then post your internet history for everyone to see.

I mean, since you don't care.

Save any important folders/files to a thumb drive...

... then FDisk yer hard drive...

... and do a fresh install of Win7.

I tried to use Cortana once or twice, but it was worthless. There is a way to disable it. I will likely do that soon.

The tech came out to work on the wi-fi and said the same thing. He hates 10 and keeps dropping his laptop because of it. (Don't ask.)

10 has a feature that records what's being said in your room, but the PC/laptop must have a mic, of course.

My son, who is also IT, took 8 off my last PC and put 7 on it when I kept whining that 8 was for "touch" laptops, so it can be done. My son is also going to install 10 for me when I HAVE to have it -- hopefully no time soon. There is a way of disabling the monitoring features but it has to be done during installation. He just shakes his head and says -- why so paranoid, mother? Do you think anyone really wants to listen to you singing off-key?

I'm so tired of every bit of software logging every little keystroke and every little mic recording every little word, but I doubt we'll ever go back to the place where we had a modicum of privacy. And, I'm not going to stop singing, so they'll just have bear with me.

Theres a way to go back to 7 from 8 naturally one way is to reformat your drive and reinstall 7 but then you would have to reload all the software you had. Theres another way ill have to ask my buddy whether theres special problems with it. I wont see him until sunday when him and his wife comes over. Were both busy all week

Too keep it from spying you have to turn it off in the registry but its not listed in registry by cortana.

If you have cortana installed you can stop it from "listening" when your computer is off by shutting down normally and turning off the button on your power supply or unplugging your puter.

Really? I would think you would be embarrassed about your constant logging in at BikerMethheadNakedRepublicanLesbianNecrophileNuns. com.

That's really sick, dude.

Nuking is always the best option. Though sometimes you can apparently just delete the User.

I got around ransomware once, though I suspect the virus might have been buggy. It infected just my User account (on opening), not the machine-turn-on login. From Admin I created a new User account, copied the data files from my infected User, and then deleted the account. No problems since.

I hear that you can also get software that creates a "virtual" PC in your PC. The virtual copy looks like a real PC to the hacker, and is the one that gets infected. When you close the software, your virtual copy, and the virus, go away.
