Good article on Sweetness:

They called him Sweetness, but Chicago Bears great Walter Payton had a dark side, according to a biography to be released Oct. 4.

An excerpt of "Sweetness: The Enigmatic Life of Walter Payton," by Jeff Pearlman will appear in the Oct. 3 issue of Sports Illustrated and describes the Hall of Famer as suicidal, abusing pain medication and dealing with a crumbling family situation.

Payton, who retired as the then all-time leading rusher in NFL history after the 1987 season, was depressed and suicidal in the mid-90s. Pearlman cites a letter to a friend in which Payton said he imagined himself killing those around him and then turning a gun on himself.

"Walter would call me all the time saying he was about to kill himself, he was tired," Payton's longtime agent Bud Holmes said, according to SI.com. "He was angry. Nobody loved him. He wanted to be dead."

Payton's executive assistant, Ginny Quirk, echoed those sentiments.

I didn't know times were so hard for him, especially around the HoF induction.

MMC No love for your Bears?

The Chargers picked up ex-Bear Tommie Harris this week. Wonder if he has anything left in the tank?

The game is blacked out this week here in SD since not enough tickets were sold. That means they don't show the other AM football game either. So there's not going to be much football on here. :-\ Oh well, at least I'll get work done.

Another son of former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka has been charged with driving under the influence in Deerfield, joining an older brother who has also been charged with DUI in the village, authorities said.

While his older brother Michael P. Ditka continues a court battle in his fourth DUI case, records indicate that Mark E. Ditka was recently arrested for DUI for the third time. One of the previous DUI arrests was downgraded to reckless driving, and in the other he was found not guilty.....snip~

Dolphins-Chargers to be blacked out in SoCal

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AsNUhJng7KLawBSHzl7vpfxDubYF?slug=ap-dolphinsinjuries

DAVIE, Fla. (AP)—Miami Dolphins rookie running back Daniel Thomas(notes) has been ruled out of Sunday’s game at San Diego because of a hamstring injury.

Also ruled out Saturday were cornerback Vontae Davis(notes), who will miss his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury, and linebacker Koa Misi(notes), sidelined by a neck injury.

Slaton rushed for 1,282 yards as a rookie with Houston in 2008, but was less productive after injuring his neck in 2009 and was released this week by the Texans.

The Fins are in major Trouble.....I knew this would happen to them. Once they gave the organization over to Parcels. Plus both Coachs Wannsted(the Wannabe) and Jimmy Johnson Never did anything for Miami Talent Wise.

All they can hope to do is play spoiler this year. U know its bad when Miami takes back Jason Taylor. Who was cut from the Jets. No Defense at all.

Note: the Packers are sitting Grant out. Looks like GB will look to throw the ball against Denver. To bad Denver doesnt have a running back they could rely on for some smashmouth football. Orton will have to step up his game. I figure the pack to win easy. But it would be nice to see the Upset. Then Orton can rub it in Lovey Dovey's face along with DeAngelo. They should fire Mr Two all beef patties and his special sauce lovin azz and send him back to St louis where he belongs. >:(

Someone should do a scientific study on the whole icing thing. I think if it's a vet or someone who is nailing them in previous attempts you're better off not doing it. If it's a rookie or someone who has missed before in the game then it might be worth it.

It really does. NBC should pay the refs to keep it close. This is a good matchup. With the schedule set so far ahead sometimes the games end up sucking...for ex, I know the Colts are on again tomorrow night. Don't remember who they're playing but without Manning who cares about the Colts?

They haven't said for sure he's done for the year but I think it's likely. The only reason he would come back is if the team was in playoff contention late in the year but for his own career and that of the franchise probably better to have him skip it entirely.

I just want both teams to beat the crap out of each other, and then instead of a postgame handshake Harbaugh and Ryan can start throwing punches. How is that neither one has been in a fist fight? Rex's dad tried to punch out a fellow coach. Where's the fire with these youngsters? ;D

Looks Like I went 11-4.....Cutler throws another interception or did he throw 2. Forte 205 yrds. The Bears almost lost that game. Against a good team they would have. All due to Cutler again throwing the ball over the recievers head or behind him. In the second half 3 times Custard screwed up on 3rd down. 3 times they needed to make that first down and Cutler scrubs up just like all knew he would.

Allowing Carolina all those points shows the Bears D is not there.

MMC
10-03-2011, 09:58 AM
Yeah I think it was that whole AFC division that made him look good. LT was with SD. Plus the Chiefs had their two big running backs. So back then they werent really throwing the ball. The Raiders had nobody. All the Defenses in that division sucked. Denver was the only one throwing the ball. Plus they were throwing it before they sent ole boy to Arizona when they decided to pick up Cutler. Course with him came his crutch. Bennett from Vanderbilt.

No one in Chicago really thought Cutler was the answer. Been thru way to many QBs for that. Dont forget the Bears popped Grossman as the Number one pick out of College. Then that didnt work. Orton won almost every game he played with the Bears. Then they screwed him over. Traded him for Cutler and along comes Custard's crutch.

Lets not forget Da Bears gave up Aromashidu to Minn. All because Cutler wouldnt throw him the ball. Had the Speed and more importantly the hands. Its not all Cutler either its Lovey Dovey Smith and buddy DeAngelo. Both from Tampa DeAngelo wouldn't know talent if it was staring him in the face. Lovey is a protege of Dungy. he use to be about Defense. Now he is about Big Macs and special sauce, car commercials and Radio ads.

Bears are weak in LBs, CBs and DT's. Wr's, Offensive linemen, QB, and any NFL Team running around with a White-Boy Fullback named Clutts. Pretty much says it all. >:( :D

Conley
