View Full Version : Sunday Night Music -- One hit wonders

The field of music of all genres is filled with them. Artists, groups, composers who had one good sing in them. For our purpose we will set aside the varying and conflicting definitions of what constitutes a one hit wonder; save to say none of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Eagles or such are going to make the list....
But any band can, in this list, so long as any of their other music ever made it to the top 100 in any given year...
And topping that list is a duo of two guys who wrote, produced and made a small fortune on one song. They were so successful they switched careers and became producers and both of them were ever only known by one name...

Now, if your last name is Greenbaum, you aren't likely to have a long career in rock and roll, and this Canadian didn't....

What can I say...this was a 60's major hit...but one look at the video and you can understand why it was a one hit wonder

It's been awhile since good music has been "hits", but here's the only one-hit wonder I know. From the only country worse than Canada, Europe.
(Yes, that's a joke)

The story behind this next tune is that these guys were so shit faced they couldn't sing the lyrics as written "In the Garden of Eden, don't you know that I love you..."
It was scrapped until a creative producer put pieces of it together, took sections of a mashed drum solo together, added some effects and we get:
In A Gadda Da Vidda....Iron Butterfy, the beginning of heavy metal...

There is really no good reason why this tune made it anywhere and some people are glad the Swingers were stopped cold

Not really a one-hit-wonder but a band that could never recover from that one big hit.
