I think I had this posted on another thread. Catholic Baroque music, architecture etc. have always made a profound impression on me. What I like in particular about these Spanish baroque guitar pieces is that they have to be interpreted. We simply don't know how these pieces were actually performed and what they were supposed to sound like. A Jacaras is a Spanish folk dance.

Always love the sound of Spanish guitar. I have this:

It's great for study. Sounds great and not too distracting.

Spanish guitar is great. I agree.

I think the Baroque guitar is a different instrument. I don't know that much about the mechanics of music though.

First time I heard-

"Winter" from The Four Seasons, by Antonio Vivaldi

Mozart's "Requiem"

"More Human Than Human", by White Zombie

The opening soundtrack sequence to THE SHINNING

"California Dreaming" by The Mamas and Papas

"Hell's Bells" by AC/DC

I know there are more, but these are pieces of music I can actually recall where I was and what I was doing when I first heard them. Also, there are songs that I don't recall when I first heard them, but that are such perfect songs that that have that kind of impact.

Could be. I was in radio and had access to virtually everything being released in those days and had never heard that Spirit piece. It was, though, The Zep who kicked it into high gear and had the song not been so long would have made the crossover to AM.

If they did, why didn't Spirit sue?

The Spirit song never took off. Zeppelin did it so much better. My guess is that Spirit was flattered. Page took a lot of inspiritation from them, Zeppelin had opened up for them two years before Stairway, and Zeppelin even used to play Spirit covers (like Fresh Garbage).

Either that or drugs.

This takes some explaining.

One of the last songs to blow me away was the attached. I had it on CD but had never really listened to it closely.

I had a Nissan 300Z with twin turbos and T-tops. I was returning from a cross continental drive, the last visit I would pay my Alzheimer's father who by then did not know who I was. I had lingered in Missouri with a friend visiting Civil War battlefields and then again in the Dakotas, I simply had to go to "Deadwood Gulch" and visit the saloon where Wild Bill Hickcock was shot.
Somehow knowing it might be the last time in a long time that I would be around those parts, I dipped south and hit Bend, Oregon to visit an old girlfriend and from there blew into Crater Lake where I spent the day, slept in the hatchback. In the morning I head out on the highway that takes you to the coast; it follows the Umpqua River and "we" the car and I became one with the turbos kicking in when needed and the wind providing a low level white noise with the T-tops out.

This song came on...now listen to the beat....it was almost identical to the twists and turns of the road, the occasional glimpses of the river and the song set the pace. I hit the repeat button on what has to have been the most fantastic auto sound system I have ever known and "we" Loreena, the car and I spent about an hour heading down the mountains......

and every time I heard her sing "take me with you" my heart broke...as that was what the ex girlfriend had said, jokingly, when I left Bend.

My dad died a few months later and the ex remarried.....

She has many, many albums all Celtic but oh so very good. Her voice is perfect for my ear. I have no musical talent at all, but I do have a deep baritone voice and am told her voice, which I think is a mezzo soprano just resonates with me. Go to you tube and check her out

Grand Funk Blew Led Zepplin Off The Stage
:cool2:
A little known fact. Led Zepplin was blown off the stage at the 1969 Atlanta Pop Festival held during the July 4th weekend. Grand Funk was the warm up band or preceding band for Led Zepplin. Not yet signed by any recording company, this new band had the crowd loving the music and rocking so hard that the Atlanta International Raceway stands began shaking hard enough to alert the Festival organizers. A structural engineer was called, fearing the stands would collapse entirely due to the enthusiastic crowd.

After playing a few sets, the manager of Led Zepplin. Richard Cole, approached Grand Funk's manager, Terry Knight and he demanded that GF they stop playing immediately and leave the stage. Knight refused and the physically larger Cole grabbed Knight by the throat demanding they leave. The plug was pulled. The crowd was in no mood to have Funk leave and became raucus, rowdy, and began throwing items and yelling obscenities. With the atmosphere the way it was, Led Zepplin never went on stage. (Found on YouTube history of Grand Funk).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=lMsIrKjSM6Y

Grand Funk went on to immediate stardom signing with Columbia Records later in 1969. Their first album, "On Time," went Gold. In 1970 they released their second album, "Grand Funk," (red album) which went Platinum. "Closer To Home," their 3rd album went Double Platinum. In 1970, Grand Funk sold more albums than any other American band and in 1971, Grand Funk played their largest gig to date selling out at New York's Shea Stadium ...selling more tickets than The Beatles and in just 72 hours compared to weeks for The Beatles. In 1972, Terry Knight sued the members of Grand Funk for 75 million dollars claiming ownership of the band's name and songs. It turns out Knight was giving the band 6% from all sales of single and albums. So each member was getting 2% of what they earned.

In late 1973, the single "We're An American Band," hit #1, the band's first. At one point it, "We're An American Band" was the top selling song worldwide with 1 million singles sold. It is often referred to as America's rock anthem and rightly so considering the title, lyrics. and overall power sound. In 1974, "The Loco-Motion," a power-redo of the Little Eva hit of 1962, sold 1 million singles. In 1975 GF released their 4th album, "All The Girls In The World Beware" with 2 singles spinning off: "Some Kind Of Wonderful" and "Bad Times." In 1976, Grand Funk broke up citing stress and personal issues. They reunited in 1996 for a benefit concert.
