So i'm down river fossil hunting. Close to dusk, I hear what sounds like a group of angry yellow jackets in the tree canopy. I look up, it is a quadrecopter drone about 300 feet off the ground.

Here is the thing, it was about 1600 yards off the highway and a very long way from any structures. Just when you think you are alone....

My guess is was the game warden or land owner looking for poachers?

What is the range on these things? It was sure zipping around. Where is a 12 gauge when you need it?

I can see where someone in a rural setting...

... would use a drone to check someone out...

... who is on their property...

... or a game warden using a drone for surveillance...

... of territory he is responsible for.

I've got some friends in montana that use a drone to get aerial footage for property sales.

Theirs is pretty high end, several thousand dollars. They said it has a 3 or 4 mile range I think. Stays up for around 30 minutes and can really haul ass. Something around 35 miles an hour.

Those things are advancing really fast.

You can use them to get good video that you just can't get otherwise. This is a practice video. I'll post some better ones when I run them through my video editor. Looks best in 1080 P full screen.
