When I try to upload a picture, it says that gifs are one of the supported file types, yet I can't get any gifs to animate when I upload them from my computer.

This one's a test:

Are you uploading them from a place that shows them as animated gifs or are you uploading from maybe... like... a thumbnail that's just a stillshot?

I'm uploading them as files from my computer. They aren't shown as animated on the thumbnails unless I open them.

Also, click on the image of Larry David in the OP. The Filename you'll see says .jpg. On my computer, the file says .gif.

I don't know. :( This sounds like a complicated problem.

Yeah, thanks for giving it a shot though. I'll see what others have to say. The animations work fine when I upload them on 4chan image boards, but I'm sure these forums use different programs so maybe it's not possible to upload animated GIFs here.

Has anyone had luck uploading animated GIFs from their computer?

Whatever uploads images here probably doesn't render animated gifs. When I searched for the above, google showed it unanimated as it doesn't render animations either. What I did is selected it from search, copied it, pasted to http://snag.gy/, and then copied URL here.

That's probably it then, the forum renderer converts.

Tried that site, Chris, and copying it an image there from my computer still just renders the thumbnail. I think I'll have to try uploading it to an independent file host first, then copy it here.

That worked. Guess I'll have to use an independent image hosting site for my GIFs.

All that for that?

I just wanted to know if there was something I was doing wrong here.

Yea, that's what I get when I download to harddrive, open in Paint, copy to http://snag.gy/.

@kathaariancode (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=423) If the GIF exceeds the maximum attachment size settings, it is resized and animation is stripped. I have increased the allotted attachment size and prevented thumbnail creation. Therefore, animated GIFs should appear as intended in the future.

@Trinnity (http://thepoliticalforums.com/member.php?u=235) As mentioned here:

you will need to resize your GIF in order to use it as an avatar. Please follow the instructions I have posted. Your image, as it currently exists, is too wide for an avatar.
