I turned up on the lieutenant colonel promotion list for some reason. Guess that means for 3 more years of work before I can put the army behind me.

Way to go, Peter! Lt Col is a tough rank to attain, in any branch of the service....most don't make it past Major. Impressive. Please accept a heartfelt salute from this old retired USAF MSgt.

*salute*

Thanks Ocean. I was surprised- 9 of my 21 years were enlisted. So retiring as a major would have been very acceptable.

I have two uncles who retired as Light Colonels.. Marine Air Corps .. and a Ranger cousin who retired as a light colonel.

It take dedication.. You should be proud.

Sincere congratulations.
I guess that there is more to come , even allowing for some of your more esoteric political positions .

Thanks Cary. This is likely the end for my military career. I will have to serve three more years and then I can retire as a LTC. I have no aspirations for higher rank. But who knows what the future will ask of us. I may not end up with a choice.

Light colonel does seem to be a glass ceiling.. My Marine Aircorp uncles were also enlisted before OCS.. I know less about my ranger cousin.

I could stay in and be competitive for COL. If I wanted to put in the work.
