One year ago today, a rising 15 year-old track star named Trinity Gay was shot and killed during an act of violence in a Lexington, KY parking lot.

Lexington Police (http://www.flotrack.org/article/47348-update-three-arrested-in-murder-of-olympian-s-daughter-trinity-gay) have arrested three persons in connection with the fatal shooting. On Sunday, 21-year-old Dvonta Middlebrooks was charged with wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and father and son Chazerae Taylor, 38, and D'markeo Taylor, 19, were each charged with wanton endangerment.

Trinity is the daughter of Tyson Gay, a nationally-known Olympian track star.

From all accounts, this young lady was a fine girl.

The Cook Out restaurant (where she was shot) is located in the "black" part of town. Most of the crime in Lexington is centered there.

This continuing black-on-black crime has got to end. I don't care if gangbangers want to shoot each other. But other people get shot too, people, like Trinity Gay, who had their whole lives ahead of them.

It is a big story in Lexington, a city full of mostly minority crime.

In 2016, blacks accounted for about 57 percent of murder victims, 30 percent were white, 9 percent were Hispanic, and 4 percent were another ethnicity, according to the city’s breakdown of victims. White people accounted for 78 percent of people living in Fayette County, blacks made up 15 percent, and Hispanics made up 7 percent, according to U.S. Census data from 2015.
