My laptop wanted to update, so I let it.

Came home an hour later, turned it on. It said "this will take a while, don't turn off your PC, it will restart several times.

Left home one and a half hours later, updates 23% complete! WTF?

I never used to let it, but my techy friend, says to let it. Anyone not let it?

In my experience, it doesn't matter how many times you tell it you don't want the updates. It will wait until you're sleeping and do it anyway. I once logged on and found that my computer was in the middle of downloading Windows 10.

Once (well more than once but once when I really really needed to be on the computer) it asked me to install updates now or install them later. I clicked the Later button and it proceeded to install them now anyway---taking an hour and a half when I had a two hour deadline to get something done.

Yes.True, but you are the true matter of the machine. If you don't want it to, it won't.

I have the old Windows XP! I
live with the dinosaurs. Not supported by Windows anymore.

I wish i still had XP.

I never allow Windows to auto update. I go find out what they are first.
