Fox News viewers demand reporter Shepard Smith be fired for debunking 'Clinton uranium scandal'

Shepard Smith, who has been at Fox for more than two decades, discredited the theory which his own network has branded the Clinton uranium “scandal” in a five-minute segment.Fox News, as well as President Donald Trump and his allies, have suggested for months that donations to the Clinton Foundation were tied to the approval of a deal by the State Department and the Obama administration which allowed a Russian company to purchase a Canada-based mining group with operations in the US.

.....

Proponents of the wholly false theory, which has been exposed as incorrect by various fact-checkers, claim that nine people involved in the deal made donations to the Clinton Foundation which add up to more than $140 million. They say Ms Clinton in exchange approved the sale to the Russians – a “a quid pro quo”.

Smith, who has a history of angering Fox's viewers, debunked the conspiracy theories which surround a uranium deal involving the former Democrat presidential candidate. The reporter noted the Clinton State Department did not possess the power to either veto or approve such a transaction.

Facts aren't important to those who want it to be true. After all, right wing partisan news wouldn't lie to them.

Any more than the left wing partisan news would. http://i.snag.gy/xCseE.jpg

I won't watch it but I'm inclined to think Fox will decline the demand so it can promote itself as fair and balanced again.

Fair enough, but I don't see a lot of Alternet links around here and I do see a lot of TownHall.

I think a lot of Fox viewers might have been upset that Smith left out a lot of facts with his "debunking." Smith himself got debunked.

The media does not have to endorse lies either. It's certainly not outside of the purview of a journalist to research a topic for facts and regardless of whatever rumor is being disseminated by various parties, add fact to the narrative. That can either support or undermine the rumor.

Fox News Channel is a commercial venture and as you maintained, his job depends on ratings since that's how Fox and most of the other news channels/networks/radio operate. Ratings = Money; all else be damned.

Wouldn't. Couldn't. Doesn't.
You cannot expect a Conservative news source to present to it's following something they don't want to hear.
Furthermore, the reputation of FOX is reliant on the quality of its employees, past and present, such as O'Reilly, Ailes and the like so it has to be the best thing since sliced bread - to deplorables.

CNN has been caught making up stories and planning protests to favor you crybabies.. Don't hang the fake part on Fox. Look in a mirror. It's still not Smith's job to interpret the news. He's to report. That's it.

This is where the country is at this point in time. I'm honestly afraid for our country because so many people are so easily manipulated to discard facts. IMO, it's far too late for those who have created this monster to try now and put Pandora back in the box.

So, a Russian owned company didn't take control of 20% of our uranium production?

UPDATED with more details, analysis: Comcast (http://deadline.com/tag/comcast/) has approached 21st Century Fox (http://deadline.com/tag/21st-century-fox/) to express interest in a possible acquisition, according to media reports this afternoon, citing people familiar with the matter. The cable giant wants to explore talks to buy Fox’s movie and TV studio, some of its cable networks and its stakes in satellite TV provider Sky, Star India and the Hulu streaming service. The Fox Broadcasting Co., local television stations, Fox News Channel and Fox Sports would not be included in a possible sale.

I can see Comcast wanting to purchase fox's movie channels and cable networks; NBC (owned by Comcast) has an excellent distribution system that many networks drool over so it would make sense for Comcast to attempt to make a purchase.

Pretty sure that would be the end of FOX news, as conservatives know it, ratings would tank.
