I don't think anyone's surprised by this. Mrs Zero and I may have to move her elderly mother into our house and start caring for her.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said Wednesday that congressional Republicans will aim next year to reduce spending on both federal health care and anti-poverty programs, citing the need to reduce America's deficit.
“We're going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Ryan said during an appearance on Ross Kaminsky's talk radio show (https://khow.iheart.com/featured/ross-kaminsky/content/2017-12-06-speaker-of-the-house-paul-ryan/). "... Frankly, it's the health care entitlements that are the big drivers of our debt, so we spend more time on the health care entitlements — because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking.”

Ryan said that he believes he has begun convincing President Trump in their private conversations about the need to rein in Medicare, the federal health program that primarily insures the elderly.

Individual states should be providing that type of funding/care and not the federal government. A small safety net should exist at the federal level, if at all.

The Constitution does not allow for any spending on individual welfare of any type by the Federal government. It is time to begin phasing all federal programs out.

Nursing homes suck. If you can care for her, you should.

Agreed. We did that with one grandfather but the other unfortunately had to spend some time in a nursing home. It was night and day.

They take 20 minutes to bring a bed pan on some shifts, they rarely bathe people. Skin issues around the business.

My life is much different now, but I don't mind. I am glad to be a caregiver.

I'd be curious to learn more about this. Many times people applaud this type of slashing because they don't think it will affect them. It's either for minorities or "someone else" but certainly not them so they don't care. Personally, I think this is another way to control the population. You cut off health care and other funding and those people who are too sick or don't have enough funds to cover their own care eventually die.......
