I've been hearing a lot of great foreign music lately, and I'd really like to hear more.

I've been especially digging a lot of Eastern European music though, I'll start with some of that.

Ever heard of Beats Antique? They're from here in America, but their style uses a lot of Middle-Eastern bellydancing influence. I think they're sick as fuck.

I can't say I've heard them before now, but I like what I'm hearing. Post #2 is an American-Israeli band called Balkan Beat Box. I'm not so worried about the band's origin as I am hearing a different take on music, either music that has western roots being interpreted by another culture or music from another part of the world.

That's kind of what I figured. I'll spare you the injustice of another "Gangnam Style," post because that shit would totally belong in this thread if I wanted to be "that guy."

But I don't, (not tonight, anyway) so have this instead.

And since I assume the root of what you're looking for is really just a change from the crap we Americans listen to day in and day out:

Oh yeah. I listened to Rammstein a lot in High school, only discovered KMFDM more recently. If you're into Rammstein though you might like these guys:

Eisbrecher is dope. Ever heard of Megaherz? Wumpscut? Trust me, German music is no stranger to my ears.

Well, TBH I don't really listen to much radio or anything like that. My usual stuff tends to be indie rock (the Mountain Goats, the Hold Steady, crap like that), post rock (like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Earth, Explosions in the Sky) or progressive rock. I listen to a bit of everything, but you're right that I'd like to branch out a little.

Did you happen to make it through all of the Ulver album I posted? I listen to a bit of everything too, but I'm sure you notice metal is my "forte" as some would call it.

I listened to the first few minutes and put the rest in my watch later folder on youtube, since I still had a bunch of homework to take care of. I plan on hearing the rest of it soon though.

Metal is definitely not my forte, even though I do like a lot of it. At one point I was really into the local metal scene where I'm from, especially since metal was the only metal scene we could boast of, with a punk band here and there.

These guys ended up getting doing pretty well:

Let me know what you think when you listen to the rest of it. Just PM me or bump my thread since it didn't get a lot of attention. I don't think many people on here know too much Avant Garde.

No problem, will do. There's some stuff I'd post in your thread but I was hesitant since it's sort of on the border of what can be considered avant garde.

The term Avant Garde is very widespread, to me it is something that is very experimental, and sometimes even has an "ahead-of-it's-time" type sound to it.

Post whatever you want in it, it's not like I'm going to beat you up! (not too bad, anyway   no homo)

Sure, if you define vaguely enough.

These days I'm enjoying "Turkish Groove" as I drive to the local fitness center (called "The Centre" -- we're high-class, you know). I also greatly enjoy certain bits from several collections in the "Sound of the World" series, assembled by the late BBC radio DJ Charlie Gillett (R.I.P.). Of course, there are always the lovely works of Vivaldi and Pachelbel.

Just to be clear, I'm no "foreign is better" snob of some kind. There is, IMO, some scattering of brilliant musical compositions in nearly all genres, amid a sea of ho-hum and outright crap in all of said genres (not to exclude "classical" music). I also listen with enjoyment to U2, Louis Armstrong, Mills Brothers, Bob Dylan.... :cool2:

There is a show on some NPR stations on in the evening or late but I catch it when I'm driving around the country at times. "Music from India" or something like that.

What god-awful noise.

The "outright crap" of the classical genre has not survived.
