Chilly today 72 and sunny :) our lousy season starts june 1st hurricane season and with it comes high 90s and 100% humidity.

The first year I moved here I wanted to go back up north, the heat was stifling almost couldnt breath. They kept telling me in the VFW you will get used to it and not even realize its humid. Actually that was the truth but it took 3 summers

At least you have a breeze there. In New Orleans, you have the heat but no wind. Unless there is a hurricane.

I use to live in Highland Ind when I had my Office Cleaning and Janitorial business.

Then I was living in Munster Ind and I plan on moving back there. That or Highland or South Hammond next to Munster. Munster and Highland being Conservative Towns Right on the Border. Taxes are cheaper. Gas is cheaper. Can get the same exact house over there for like 30-40k less. Everything is cheaper in Indiana. Of course being on the border then I am still 20-25 mins from Downtown Chiraq.

One weather station is saying 39 tomorrow the other 44 tomorrow both partly sunny and cloudy. Then one says 53 and rain Wed. The other saying 43 with rain. So it will be heading your way.

I use to lose power at my condo all the time. The county did upgrades to the system and it is rare now. But years ago I discovered my circuit breaker box was dangerously jerry-rigged so I had the whole thing replaced with a much bigger box, so I have plenty of space for more connections- and I had a surge protector attached to the box. I still have outlet surge protectors for my electronics, so I think I am as protected as I can be with modern tech.

Beautiful part of the country, but wildfires are a known threat. Just as hurricanes are known threats on the Gulf and East Coasts.

At least the dangers of fires can be mitigated with sensible forest management policies. Too bad the West Coast doesn't give it a try.

It may hit close to me.

But I grew up in the New Orleans area. One thing is for sure: I do not need to go to the store for stuff at the last minute. I have enough food for well over 6 months; 2 months for my cats. And water for at least a month.

I would expect a bad hurricane hit here would leave us without power no longer than 3 days.

LOL the last one that hit us that was a cat 3 when it hit southern NC, we were out of power before the first bands even hit NC. It took them 8 days to restore power in my area east of Raleigh. I knew people that waited as long as 11 days. I do have a generator and no I don't need to go to the store either. I am prepared for the worst and hope for the best.

There is no effective way to deal with ice, except to stay home. It also tends to attack our vulnerable grid, but heavy, wet snows can do the same. What did you wind up getting hit with.? We ranged from -20 to I think I say +2 once this weekend.

I will if I have to.

8" is a lot for here. We don't have the amount of snow removal assets that places further north do. There was little done on secondary roads. I went to REI yesterday taking back streets. I was one of the few on the roads and my SUV is 4 wheel drive, so I didn't have problems. It did force a slide a couple of times for fun (when nobody was near me). In a parking lot I slid into a spot perfectly. My tracks in the snow showed that I slide to the right, then an abrupt 90 degree turn - funny to look at.

I don't even bother to shovel my parking spot. I just drive over the snow plowed behind me from the road, and then roll over it to my spot when I come home. The snow is high enough to set my rear motion detector off.

So, what's up with these meaty urologists? Are they moonlighting? Why would they think they could predict the weather as well as a weatherman?

So a few days ago I shoveled at well below aero and had to pace myself to keep my breathing under control and was in full winter gear. Heavy coat, pullover underneath, gloves, heavy facemask . I actually caught a chill , rare for me, and took a hot shower to cure it.
Today I shoveled at +30 with an open wind breaker, no gloves, no hat and had to take a cold "whore's shower" just to cool down! From the low this weekend the temp was up 55 or more degrees today. You never know.
We were supposed to get ice but got very little, which is great.

So we had like a one day thaw along with ice and then another dreaded forecast of 1-3 inches to snow. Which around here is code for " you are probably going to get a foot or better" and we did. I had business about and hour away yesterday and ran out of the snowstorm abut 12 miles down the road into blue skies. Windy with some blowing a drifting snow but no more accumulations. When I can home I ran back into the storm right where I had left it, still snowing like hell. So this morning we dug out again!

We had a neat day today. About 25 degrees this morning when I headed out to Shenandoah to do the Shenandoah Run Hike. No rain, plenty of sun. It probably got up to 36. 8.2 miles, 1960' elevation gain. Not to strenuous, but imo it wasn't a beginner's trail as it is ranked.

Blizzard-like conditions started at noon and will continue all night. It took me an hour to get home tonight on public transit. I could have walked home in the same time but I would have been frozen by the gusting wind. Tomorrow's commute should be interesting.

We are going to get some rain / snow starting around 3 pm. A bunch of local schools have announced a two hour early release.

A number of people treated for frostbite at a Minnesota hospital required admission to the burn unit for therapies that include drugs to restore circulation. Some of them will probably still require amputations. Be careful in these conditions if you live in this area.

I heard about the -50. That shit is dangerous! I used to function as needed outdoors at -40 but limited outdoor time until it was a balmy -20 or so.
But now I prefer it in the single digits below zero before I shovel because of the lungs.

We got a break in the action. Another round moving in about 5-6 hours from now. I was hoping I could fall asleep tonight listening to it storm. I think my love of rain snd storms is a product of living on the farm as a young child. I knew if it was messy out the farm stopped and the cropdusters were grounded. On those days if my father wssnt doing something else I would get to see him or spend the day at grandmas with her and granddad. I still long for those days.
