They're a great band. I didn't appreciate them enough until I read about the National Liberation Front in Algiers and terrorism that took place in the Casbah. Prior to that I vaguely knew a Casbah was some type of city in Islamic countries.

Whatchu playing Mister D? I'm down for some Stravinsky or Chopin if that's your flavor!

My father was there and in the Belgian Congo. He was wounded as part of Dutch UN peacekeeping force. Don't ask me why he was attached to a Dutch outfit.

The video for Rock the Casbah is one of my earliest childhood memories of MTV. That was back in the 80s when MTV used to actually play music. I was 6 I believe when that video first aired. I used to watch MTV for hours every afternoon. I hate their version of I Fought the Law though. It's dreadful.

Hardly ever mentions it and I pried a little as a kid but when I grew up I realized there must be a reason for that...

MTV sucked by the mid 1990s, IMO. They had this show called The Headbangers Ball which I tried to catch when I was into metal but that was the end of my interest.

Yeah, the older I get, the more I am like my dad. I don't like crowds very much.

I do like live music though, especially in a small intimate setting.

My son was at the Cleveland Clinic recently and a woman was going around playing guitar and singing requests for patients. We couldn't think of anything to request, so she played Sweet Child 'O Mine, and Sweet Home Alabama. Definitely NOT two of my faves. But she was fantastic, very enjoyable. :)

Yeah, he's a vegan, and he's done a few things for his farm charities. I'm a pretty active member of the Mountain Goats forums, where a bunch of us made a music compilation, sold copies at his shows and donated all the proceeds to sponsor a goat at some farm house charity.

If you want a free download though, you can get it here. My friends and I made track 5 "Mars":

I don't really care about vegan causes from an ethical standpoint but staying away from meat can be healthy and helps reduce the amount of biomass that is wasted on feed for animals.

He regularly flew Boeing 757s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_757) in his role as captain for the now-defunct UK charter airline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline) Astraeus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astraeus_Airlines),[111] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEWarwick2007The_Independent2011-111) which, from 16 September 2010, employed him as Marketing Director.[112] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEMichaels2010Banham2010-112) One of his key roles in that position was to promote Astraeus' services by increasing their number of videos,[113] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBanham2010-113) leading to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Aviation_Authority_%28United_Kingdom%29) releasing a video featuring Dickinson on aircraft loading safety in June 2011.[114] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTECivil_Aviation_Authority2011-114) Following Astraeus' closure on 21 November 2011, Dickinson launched Cardiff Aviation Ltd on 1 May 2012, an aircraft maintenance business based at the Twin Peaks Hangar in St Athan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Athan), Vale of Glamorgan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vale_of_Glamorgan), South Wales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Wales).[115] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBBC_News_Online2012-115)
His role as a pilot has led to some high-profile flights, which include returning a group of British RAF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force) pilots from Afghanistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan) in 2008,[116] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEThe_Independent2008-116) 200 UK citizens from Lebanon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanon) during the Israel/Hezbollah conflict (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Lebanon_War) in 2006,[117] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEKNAC2006-117) and 180 stranded holiday makers from Egypt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt) following the collapse of XL Airways UK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XL_Airways_UK) in September 2008.[118] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEGillan2008-118) In addition, he flew Rangers F.C. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangers_F.C.) and Liverpool F.C. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_F.C.) to away matches in Israel and Italy in 2007 and 2010 respectively.[119] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBBC_News_Online2007BBC_News_Online2010-119) For the 2008–2009 "Somewhere Back in Time World Tour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somewhere_Back_in_Time_World_Tour)," he piloted Iron Maiden's chartered Boeing 757, dubbed "Ed Force One (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Force_One)", specially converted to carry the band's equipment between continents,[66] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBarton2007-66) which subsequently led to a documentary film, Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Maiden:_Flight_666).[120] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBBC_News_Online2009-120) Dickinson flew "Ed Force One" again for "The Final Frontier World Tour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Final_Frontier_World_Tour)" in 2011.[121] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Dickinson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEDome2010-121)

Whatchu playing Mister D? I'm down for some Stravinsky or Chopin if that's your flavor!

Excellent .
Also Gustav Mahler . One of my favs.

First time I heard Giya Kancheli in Russia --- he is Georgian and still alive--- I literally shrunk in my seat . Makes Stravinsky's Rite of Spring seem peaceful .

I wasn't referring specifically to the podcasts but he tells a good story.

I think that is true of most western Europeans and he touches on that gap, or even indifference, if I recall correctly.

One of my favorites from the Pogues is below. This one was done in conjunction with a famous English singer-songwriter name Kristy Macoll. Tragic story really, she was killed in a boating accident. She was in the water with her daughter, a boat was racing towards them and she had just enough time to throw her daughter out of the way before the boat hit and killed her.

Marilyn Manson also covered it. Sounds the same as Depache Mode's original. Nobody did it like Cash.

Counting Crows relatively recently released a sort of b-side cover album. I heard them on Stern, they did Carry That Weight, it sounded pretty good.

That singer (forgot his name) is pretty talented.

It's great if I'm in the right kind of mood. I like the pieces for harpsichord better in general though:

Not bad. I like me some Jazz. Coltrane's Om is probably my favorite though. I love how chaotic it gets. Same with Ascension.

Excellent piece. I have this on a collection of Handel harp suites.

Yeah, the brass creates a totally different emotional atmosphere.

Nice portrait. He's quite a bit older on the cover of mine. I actually prefer the harp to the piano but I understand it's not as versatile.

Jazz...it has to be live. I don't care for recordings. I do, however, enjoy country blues.
