SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco voters will decide in November whether to tax large businesses to pay for homeless and housing services, an issue that set off a battle in another West Coast city struggling with income inequality.
The city elections department verified Monday that supporters had collected enough signatures to get the measure on the ballot. It would raise about $300 million a year — doubling what San Francisco spends on homelessness — for more shelter beds and housing for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming so.

The money would come from an average half-percent tax increase on companies’ revenue above $50 million each year.
Homelessness is a major problem in San Francisco, as well as other cities on the West Coast with growing numbers of high-paying tech jobs that price lower-income residents out of a shrinking housing supply. San Francisco’s new mayor, London Breed, vowed to clear the streets of its tent camps within a year of taking office.
“I think the city is really ready for this,” said Christin Evans, a San Francisco small-business owner and one of three petitioners on the measure. “We have a lot of momentum behind us, and more than a majority of the voting population is renters. We’re polling very well.”

I agree with this and I disagree and heres why. The business' in the business district of San Francisco including the biggest and most exclusive hotels begged the city a couple of years ago to clean up the homeless problem it was costing them millions in tourist business. I posted that thread on the forum when business was begging for relief. The city did nothing to clean up the homeless NOW they are taking a huge Tax hit from business leaving and less revenue and they have PILES of shit everywhere.

How about going on vacation or business trip to SF and having to watch people stop and squat and drop a load like a stray dog or have to walk past the smell.

I think something has to be done but the burden should be shared by ALL including the liberals that keep the shit flowing by keeping the city from pushing them out of the business district like NYC does. It should be a SHIT TAX across the board everyone should share the pain

San Francisco government policies create the homeless issue and now they want to penalize the businesses that pay the bills. Good move San Francisco. Soylent Green is just around the corner for you guys.

now here's where the concentration camps and gas ovens come into play......................or do like Brazil does, bussing them to the city's dumps and landfills, forcing them to live like animals while denying them basic human rights. There was a time where the cops actually went cruising the city shooting them dead and tossing the bodies into dump graves.
The best idea is to kick the illegals out of their housing and place the poor in shelters.
I call bullsh!t...they created this mess, let them tax their residents 75% and see how that goes

A sales tax should do the trick. Shouldn't everyone share in the burden?

here's where all that money goes, all that tax money so lovingly given to the state to run things.
this is merely an example:

Twice-Deported Illegal Alien Sentenced to Prison for Stealing $350K in Gov’t Benefits
https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/76143246-90af-30ad-bc57-879ae7eb82ae/ss_twice-deported-illegal-alien.html
and they support illegal immigration then complain when the system, THEY designed, is rife with corruption

Actually the homeless love living under bridges, it provides shelter from rain and wind

You have to understand this from a big city view, you have homeless all over the business district, begging, sleeping, blocking sidewalks, harrassing women and men, some getting violent attacking business owners and passerbys. The entire CITY suffers when that revenue from that district goes down.

Let me ask you this, whats the difference being homeless on a busy NYC street or being homeless under a bridge. Clue: There is none. The problem isnt herding them out of certain districts the problem is THAT NO ONE REALLY GIVES A SHIT or tries to do anything about it, because just like theres no money for new Police Equipt there is no money for homeless because the Mayors have to buy re election giving away free shit and buying votes.

CA sales tax is 7.25% now, so all they really need do is shift the decimal point. Bang, nails it.

San Francisco is about to allow illegals to register to vote, albeit only in school board elections. I can guarantee that will be extended to other elections as well.

As Pete Seeger once asked

When will they ever learn oh when will they ever learn.

In California they fear "the big one" (earthquake) that will separate California from the rest of the continental U.S.. In fly over country we pray for it.
