Japanese researchers develop electric chopsticks to enhance salty tastes...

Japanese researchers have developed computerised chopsticks that enhance salty tastes, potentially helping those who need to reduce sodium in their diets. Co-developed by Meiji University professor Homei Miyashita and beverage maker Kirin Holdings Co. (2503.T), the chopsticks enhance tastes using electrical stimulation and a mini-computer worn on a wristband.

The device uses a weak electrical current to transmit sodium ions from food, through the chopsticks, to the mouth where they create a sense of saltiness, said Miyashita.

"As a result, the salty taste enhances 1.5 times," he said.

If you are salt sensitive you have to. Other spices can be used instead. I have a no-salt Tony Chachere's that is really good - I use it on salads.

I'm not salt sensitive, I just know to avoid it. We don't have it on our table.

We have hot sauce. No salt. Plenty of other seasonings.

I do also, but it makes it tougher to go out to eat. Everything tastes like salt.

I honestly don't understand people that will get served a dish at a restaurant and immediately start emptying the salt shaker onto their food, without even tasting it first.
Plus, I wonder what happens to the salt taste when the units' battery starts running low...
