It sounds to me like a 16 year old trying to play grown up rather than dress up. Does she really have a clue what decisions will be made down life's road............
And yes, Mom could back off a little. Teenagers are always testing the limits of rebellion and should not always be taken serious in what they proclaim.
This is a 21-year-old dress we're talking about. It's probably outdated as sin. I'm thinking puffed sleeves...ick.
I feel sorry for the kid, no wonder she doesn't want to get married, she doesn't want to turn into momma.
A woman like this will probably try to sell the dress for way more than it's worth today and it won't sell, so she'll drop the price, sell it to woman who says she'll cherish it, but then she'll find out in a few months that the woman's engagement fell through and she made pillows out of the dress.
Let the kid try it on. Good grief.
