Who knew that "sexual preference" was offensive, insulting or derogatory?

I confess that I did not know that using the term "sexual preference" was offensive, insulting or derogatory. I have gay family and friends and I would never knowingly use a pejorative term. I had never thought of it but I have used that term synonymously with "sexual orientation". I am curious whether others, like me, did not know this.

Note: this is in the On the Serious Side portion of the forum and it is a "tpf" thread. This is a serious question / poll.

It's only offensive to those who claim homosexuality is genetic and can't be helped, and even moreso to those social justice warrors who go about moralizing everything.

I voted no and would add that I don't care what they are offended by.

I'll be surprised to see the votes -- I mean, the way the esteemed Senator from Hawaii dressed Her Honor down you'd think it was common knowledge....

I find it hard to believe that if you had friends or family members that were gay that you would intentionally offend them. Military vet, man of honor, member of the bar.

I never said that I would intentionally do it.

I don't update my bucket list of political correct nonsense.

Regardless of the reason being a genetics argument, the fact is that homosexuality is their sexual preference.

Words in and of themselves don't offend only the intentions behind them. Social justice warriors are too superficial, to eager t cry offense for others. --Assuming the Senator from Hawaii is not gay or trans or one of the other 57 varieties.

Tucker had a guest on that pointed out that the gay magazine The Advocate used the term just a few weeks ago.
