Everyone has a natural bias of some sort, but when it is so extreme that it distorts facts, the person becomes a purveyor of fiction rather than a historian.

The study of history is similar in that way to the study of science--it must be honest and transparent. Anything less taints the study.

I get it that a historian may read meaning into events that suit his own ideology, after all--history is written (initially) by the victors. We have a young man who has posted here since he was 13--William--and he's sharp as a tack. He's a Brit, and the version he was taught of the Revolutionary War is different from the version American children learn.

So yes, I get that bias enters in.

But, as historians go back through history and discover new facts, those new facts will not negate the old ones--as long as the old ones are documented. It's when historians intentionally mislead that we have problems.
