I agree. Yes, it was. That's probably why it was overturned. Contrary to popular delusions, the Roman Catholic Church is not a dictatorship and the Pope doesn't stuff your tithes under his mattress.
It isn't. Corruption in the Church is as old as the Church. The Church is in constant reform. Go back to Mass with your wife.

I have a protestant friend who married a Catholic man, and she had to have her former marriage annulled before they could get married. She was slightly upset at first, because she has three children from her first marriage and she was worried how her children would feel about that.
I wasn't even aware the Church would annul a marriage like that--especially since she and her former husband weren't even Catholic. But, they did. Now, she's very happily married to a pretty nice guy.
Catholics were obviously thinking ahead and put something in place for their members. I don't think the Southern Baptist Church has any such provision, so those folks I fear are going straight to hell upon expiration. If they're literalists, that is.

Churches are businesses.
But, that's not the way to judge a church. Judge it by its acts and its contribution to the world.
Other than the Mennonites that I work with and find amazing, the Catholic Church performs more charitable work than virtually any charity. I know the Church has large financial holdings, but it also is very generous to those in need.
At the end of the day, when we're adding up the pluses and subtracting the minuses, that has to be taken into account.
