    Yes.

    Life equals life.
    Liberty equals conscience.
Property equals our right to acquire and use property. Using property combined with conscience equals happiness.

A legitimate government is one that supports, protects and defends the individual's rights to life, liberty, and property. It exercises its just powers by the consent of the governed. And no. Americans no longer have a legitimate government and we haven't had one for a very long time.

You're off into neverneverland. Liberty = conscience, huh?

Sure. We are free to believe as we choose.

Life, liberty, and property. Without the ability to act according to conscience (there is where religious freedom comes from) we are not free.

The reason for Government is a little simpler than that at its base.
Man joined together to survive. It was for their self defense.

It is still the reason. Everything else is secondary.

There is liberty of conscience, but liberty is not conscience, that makes no sense.

I share your dislike of Progressives. But there are some things where Classical Liberals and Conservatives will never agree. Classical Liberals believe that Food, Shelter, and Medical Care are the most important Rights.
Progressives are Passionate about establishing Totalitarian Tyranny.

Conservatives are Apathetic about maintaining a Free Society.

From primitive times, yes, and it was basically self-government through family and families in tribes. There was no separation of people and government. That separation happened 300000 years later when agriculture emerged and governments and militaries and bureaucracies formed to protect it.

The individualism I posted about above didn't come about until modernity and the Enlightenment.
