    Time of year would really matter. The Adirondacks for example are rumored to be a very tough place to live off the land and reportedly the name Adirondacks menas "Bark Eater" in the local Indian lanquage.
    Not many tubers out here even compared to Mass. Spring would hold lots of sprouts if you knew what you were doing and fall a bounty of nuts and berries and such. But the biting insects can be brutal and anytime outside of summer temps can dip surprisingly low. But it has been done.

    In 1989, I walked into the woods in Western Mass. with a hunting knife and a loin cloth, spent the weekend in comfort, although I did have a years worth of survival training at the time...and I was young and indestructible (stupid ).
