I have never been into games and don't understand the attraction.

But, if I were to try one as a beginner on my Macbook, what would you recommend?

Pac Man is my all time fav.

Think 3rd party for 2024 folks. Clean up America.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.

That's a really broad question! There are lots of different video game genres, so the answer depends on exactly what you want out of a game. However, based on what I know about you (which, granted, isn't that much), I think you'd like What Remains of Edith Finch. It's one of my personal favorites and also happens to be great place to start gaming if you're a newbie.

What Remains of Edith Finch is a story/atmosphere-driven adventure game about a family that's believed to be cursed such that all but one child of each generation dies young in unusual ways, leaving a sole child to continue the family. The player, as Edith, the last surviving member of the Finch family, is tasked with solving the mystery of the curse. It's a fascinating reflection on the nature of life! The game's meaning of which can be interpreted in numerous ways.

In addition to just the quality of the game's story, writing, music, and general presentation, I'm also recommending this as a starting place because it's a stress-free experience (you can't lose, as there's no fail state, and it's very tough to get lost) and you don't have to have super sharp reflexes or anything (which is helpful, I think, for older players especially). Its highly creative and enjoyable vignettes also vary up the game play style a lot in a way that gives you a safe yet satisfying taste of numerous types of gaming.

Bottom line: it'll give you a stress-free taste of what the merits of being able to interact with a work of fiction can be and in that way may help you get the appeal of video games as a medium. Or at least what's appealing to me about them anyway. It's also not too long and not too pricey, yet also a big step above the sort of frankly dull, repetitious casual games one can find on the social medias like Facebook and such. It's, again, one of my favorites for a number of reasons. I really think you'd like it!

Here's where you can download the MacBook version. I'll post the game's launch trailer below.

Hey, didja ever get a chance to play What Remains of Edith Finch, Perianne? I was just curious what you thought of it.

So let me first start off by stating games like Pac Man and Joust are not in the same category as computer games and as such will ignore them. I'll also ignore console games. While they overlap there are certain historic console games that did not translate to PC so I'll ignore them.

Pickle's best PC games (all experiences and comments are related to me) in no particular order but I'll go ahead and comment on their ratings as I go along:

    - Duke Nukem - The first 3D shooter ever played online through a modem. Awesome.
    - Quake - Moving down the multi-player spectrum
    - Diablo 3 - Really the first MMO and super fun
    - World of Warcraft - Not the MMO - The original series was awesome
    - WoW MMO - I Beta'd this game for 7 months before release then played it for about 3 years. Turned into a time suck and a bunch of clan drama. But the game was awesome.\
    - Call of Duty - Just about every release is awesome.
    - Battlefield - Just about every release is awesome.
    - Star Wars Galaxies - Probably my favorite MMO

Just a few top mentions. Truth is I haven't played PC games in about 2 years. I hear Fortnite is popular.
I find your lack of faith...disturbing...
