Geez. We were just speaking to how China is at odds with Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United States. And now it's India it seems to have a dispute with as well. Would make Pete's thread start about China and Russia becoming closer allies given China's standing in the world over covid, given it's current economic issues, given other 'disputes' on third and fourth fronts...a closer tie with too close Russia makes much sense.

Great job Pete. This really is a grasp and birds eye view of current realities in the region. China making allies and adversaries. The United States obviously not even it's largest issue at the moment. Under a great deal more pressure then many realize and your article attests to that.

I think all China is doing is trying to close the potential gaps where the US can get the pointy end of the wedge in , to start agitating - it's in China's national interest (right or wrong). Don't try to claim that the US don't do that , because they've been doing it in full public view for many years - even stating it as government policy. This supposed concern for people's liberty and freedom , spreading democracy etc etc , is too worn out and abused to be believable any more.
