Windows 7 works fine but it is still vulnerable and Windows has cut off support. On a positive note, that also means they won't screw it up.
The nice thing about the vulnerability of Win 7 is that most if not all of the loopholes have been closed and the hackers have turned their attention to Win 10. With some common sense, good antivirus software, and ad blocking software, there is nothing vulnerable about Win 7 and it's less likely to be hacked.

Lots of DOS functions still work on the newer systems from the command prompt.
It is a great tool if you know how to use it.
Do you remember the 8 in floppy disks?

My first computer job was realigning the heads on those old drives.
It was a problem because the alignment tools and hardware varied so a disk that would read in one drive would not read in another. Getting a drive to read the info on a disk was job security handed to me on a silver platter.
And sometimes the mystery turned out to be a bad head that would need to be replaced.
They don't even think about doing that anymore.
    Those were the days.

Windows 10 is a great OS. You can even run Linux https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/about

There isn't suppose to be a new Windows OS. W10 will just be continually updated.

Certainly there will be a cut off date (and I'm not talking about Gates' head).
