Spurred on by the discussion around Breaking Bad here are a couple of my favorite series based shows. Check them out! Throw in yours!

    Rome:

Here is a quick clip. One of the best depictions of what it must have been like to fight with the Roman army in Gaul.

Rome is 2 seasons long with 10 episodes each (HBO) and is based on true events during the transformation from Republic to Empire. Extremely good writing with great characters and sub-plots.

    For funny sit-com:

Parks and Rec: Based on a small town Parks and Rec Department in Indiana this "interview" style situation comedy is absolutely hilarious. It's humor is both situationally and politically based.

My favorite character is Ron Swanson. He is a man's man, hunting, wood working, do it yourself kinda guy who is a staunch Libertarian. He is the Director of the Department but works within the government solely to dismantle it from within.

I find your lack of faith...disturbing...

I like Rome but I cannot stand Parks and Recreation type humour. I know that without having watched it. Katie Dippold.. Its the audience that is the joke you know.

Have you watched The Borgias? Its good.

My favourite sitcom is George and Mildred. I could not stand to look at it when I was a kid because I dont like English people. Which is funny because one time when one of my little sisters was young I asked her if she liked Harry Potter movies and she said no and I asked her why and she told me she didnt like English people. Ha. They way they talk. But I started watching it a few years ago on youtube for some reason and I ended up watching every episode and I liked it so much I decided to watch the show Man About the House which is where the two characters came from. I liked it too and watched all of those. So then I started watching Robins Nest which is also a Man About the House spin off but it does not include the George and Mildred characters and its also terrible. But yeah George and Mildred is good political humour in my opinion. A working class Labour voting couple living next door to a conservative Tory guy. Its not for everyone though.

Another good old British sitcom I like is The Good Life. Its about a middleclass guy and his wife - the guy turns 40 and decides that he doesnt want to be part of the rat race anymore so he quits his job and he and his wife go off grid and live self sufficiently. Its a great show.

Rome was very good. I hear it was very expensive to make so they only had two seasons.

That’s true. Originally a British production they built all the sets to scale. I believe at the time it was the most expense TV production to date.

It would be a good story to find out how they funded that.
