I have been to Croatia three times (and Bosnia and Monte$#@! once each). Croatia was fixed up pretty well. Bosnia still had war damage. Monte$#@! was just dirt poor.

    Father Brown
    Death In Paradise
Almost Paradise (It may be off now)
Private Eyes (It may be off now)
    Doctor Blake Mysteries
    Midsomer Murders
Elementary (off the air although they run reruns all day Sunday)

Commercial TV has become stupid. They will show two or three new episodes and then nothing for 3 months except reruns and then do it again. Most of the above are PBS shows and are British, Canadian and French

I like the British crime shows because they solve the crimes by deduction and no one shoots the bad guys ever. Although I must say Father Brown, Midsomer Murders, Death In Paradise all take place in very small towns but seem to have a lot of murders

My parents watch Father Brown. And my dad likes a show called Poirot. I found him watching Poirot one day and I laughed at him and asked him what he was watching. And he told me Poirot. And Im looking at it and I say - "French?" And he is like - "No no its Poirot is good". Apparently it is a British show based on Agatha Christie books. And Poirot is Belgian not French.

The only crime mystery show I have ever watched and liked is Columbo. I used to watch it when I was a kid.

edit - My parents love a British show called Doc Martin. I dont think its a crime show - its about a doctor.

Which is funny because one time when one of my little sisters was young I asked her if she liked Harry Potter movies and she said no and I asked her why and she told me she didnt like English people. Ha. They way they talk. But I started watching it a few years ago on youtube for some reason and I ended up watching every episode and I liked it so much I decided to watch the show Man About the House which is where the two characters came from. I liked it too and watched all of those. So then I started watching Robins Nest which is also a Man About the House spin off but it does not include the George and Mildred characters and its also terrible. But yeah George and Mildred is good political humour in my opinion. A working class Labour voting couple living next door to a conservative Tory guy. Its not for everyone though.

Another good old British sitcom I like is The Good Life. Its about a middleclass guy and his wife - the guy turns 40 and decides that he doesnt want to be part of the rat race anymore so he quits his job and he and his wife go off grid and live self sufficiently. Its a great show.
I've enjoyed a couple of seasons of an Australian series called 'Mr. In-Between'...although I must confess to having to occasionally turn on the closed captioning feature on the t.v. because I can't make out what's being said. Looking forward to Season 3.

    Rome:

Here is a quick clip. One of the best depictions of what it must have been like to fight with the Roman army in Gaul.

Rome is 2 seasons long with 10 episodes each (HBO) and is based on true events during the transformation from Republic to Empire. Extremely good writing with great characters and sub-plots.

    For funny sit-com:

Parks and Rec: Based on a small town Parks and Rec Department in Indiana this "interview" style situation comedy is absolutely hilarious. It's humor is both situationally and politically based.

My favorite character is Ron Swanson. He is a man's man, hunting, wood working, do it yourself kinda guy who is a staunch Libertarian. He is the Director of the Department but works within the government solely to dismantle it from within.

Rome is a great TV series, was slated to run 5 years, but costs and declining viewership stopped it.

I have the two year collection, a nice addition to my 425 DVD collection, and around 200 VHS pile.

    Try these:

Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Green Gables the continuing story

    The Band of Brothers

    The Pacific

It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again." Ronald Reagan
