The Japanese motorcycles were mechanically superior to the British bikes by the mid 60's (a 305 Honda Hawk could keep up with a 650 BSA or Triumph with ease.) But, like the Triumph executive said, who would want a bike they could get on and ride from John O Groats to Lands End without any mechanical failures. No lads, the stout British motorcyclist wants something they can fiddle with and make their own.
In essence the rice burners lacked soul! Although I will have to admit I have only owned two British motorcycles, the one in my avatar and a 2003 Triumph Bonneville that was a joy to ride because I did ride it on a 3500 mile jaunt with absolutely no issues what so ever. (The BSA I couldn't ride from Jacksonville FL to St Augustine Fl (30 miles) without some mechanical failure. I learned that BSA stood for "$#@! Seized Again" The Triumph I would still have except it was rear ending by a tractor trailer rig. I now have a 2001 Suzuki GS500, the most anemic motorcycle I have ever owned since since my first 125cc Jawa in 1960
Welcome!
The last letter of the alphabet is pronounced "zee", not "zed"!
I have a friend who is Canadian. We jokingly tussle about that.

My first real motorcycle was a Suzuki GT 185, electric start, Ram air cooled, my father bought it off a friend of mine, he’d got his girlfriend pregnant and wanted some quick cash, I repaid my father every penny of the £440 he paid for it. This bike could just about do 90mph, All in all it was a great little bike.
