8 weird DARPA projects that make science fiction seem like real life

8 weird DARPA projects that make science fiction seem like real life

DARPA focuses on long-range tech. There are other agencies that focus on the proven or close to proven tech. Here are 8 projects DARPA has worked on:

    1. Plant-eating robots- tactical robots that eat plants for energy while doing their missions.

    2. Houses that repair themselves- soldiers build a scaffold and the scaffold builds itself and repairs itself if needed.

    3. Lab-grown blood- a clear benefit for battlefield medicine.

    4. Cyborg insects- very small drones.

    5. Brain implants for PTSD- (there are also programs to enhance soldier performance.)

    6. Robotic infantry mules- anyone who was light infantry knows how heavy the craps we have to carry.

    7. Nuke-propelled spaceship- the key to true space exploration.

    8. Mechanical elephants- a much bigger infantry robot mule.

This one's very hard to believe. I hope they have to account for their expenditures?

    4. Cyborg insects- very small drones.

Creepy. This is the kind of thing that will eventually require legislation (against) and strict regulations, I think.

    5. Brain implants for PTSD- (there are also programs to enhance soldier performance.)

Medical aid, great. Cyborgs, very creepy.

    6. Robotic infantry mules- anyone who was light infantry knows how heavy the craps we have to carry. 8. Mechanical elephants- a much bigger infantry robot mule.

    Sounds great.

    7. Nuke-propelled spaceship- the key to true space exploration.

I thought of this decades ago, probably a lot of people have.
